Doesn't it come with your normal Java package from Sun??? Its API doesn't say that you need to download it separately.

The javax.speech package doesn't comes with sun API.. we should download it manually...

You do need to download it manually, and
I suggest you download FreeTTS.

It comes with the JSAPI, a few voices to use and, of course, it's free.

Here's a link: http://freetts.sourceforge.net/docs/index.php

From that link you should be able to find out pretty much everything
you need to know about FreeTTS.

They even have a FreeTTS Programmer's Guide.

PS, The other popular synthesis and (I think) recognition software is called Sphinx4.
