Hi, okay i've spent hours in the web searching for the right image slideshow/gallery to use for my website but in vain! Dont get me wrong the jQuery, Ajax scripts i've seen so far are so good but they all use lists to load all the images at once and yet i'm targeting an area with not-so-much-bandwidth. Is there an image gallery script around that uses ajax to maybe fetch an image from an external file and display it on the page? hope this makes sense! thanks for your help!!

Hi, I have an ajax script that sends a request to a servlet for information to be inserted into a table cell. The servlet then handles the request and replies with something like this: (I took the liberty of removing all the out.println tags)
<script language='javascript' src='whiteWine.js'></script> <table align='center' border='0'> <tr> <td align='center'> <img src='Images/Buttons/Small/left.png' id='leftButton' onclick='prevPicture()' onMouseOver="changeOver('leftButton')" onMouseOut="changeOut('leftButton')" > <img src='Images/Buttons/Small/right.png' id='rightButton' onclick='nextPicture()' onMouseOver="changeOver('rightButton')" onMouseOut="changeOut('rightButton')" > </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan='2' align='center'> <img id='mainPicture' src='Images/Wines/White Wines/whiteWine01.png' /> </td> </tr>
For some reason, however, all the scripts functions cannot be found on the page. If I attach the …

Hello friends, I am trying to use the Ajax control i.e. Scriptmanager, to get the data from the server asynchronously (without postback). For this as per the guidance given by MSDN, I have code in my system. I have used following psuedo code...
<ScriptManager ID="..."> <ScriptService path="ABC.asmx"/> </ScriptManager> <script> function check() { ABC.ABC.Hello(string.value, onresult); } function onresult(result) { alert (result.value); } </script>
I am able to test my web service through the browser and it is giving expected result. But it is giving error that it cannot found the ABC.ABC object. Is anything I am missing here? In …

Is there a way to send a large amount of data through AJAX to a PHP script? Almost all tutorials say to modify the URL to equal whatever variable your trying to look up. I am wondering if it is possible to pass infomation to the server through an XML or HTML document? Because having a whole array of information in the address bar can be kind of cumbersome.

I have written a javascript function that calls a web service to save data. When the web service is called an alert pops up saying the server method saveUpdateCodes failed, and it gives no other information. The thing is the web service executes and throws no errors (I've stepped though it). Also, the alerts in the catch in the javascript code never happen. Does anyone no how this can happen? Could it be the browser, my code...? For testing, I am using Firefox w/ the firebug plugin. The javascript code is below, if you need more information, please ask. Thanks. …

Hello friends! I'm just beginning with JavaScript (and Ajax). My loginscript now works with Ajax - that is; the script is sending a request to the servers PHP script to check username and password, but I wonder what that script should return - and how to use that response. Either XML or pure text: The response is now "false" if the user couldn't log in for some reason, and the users ID and real name if the login went well... But then the problem: if login IS ok - so that the users ID and real name is returned from …

I am developing a website in ASP.net and I would like to be able to track the mouse movements whilst a user of the site is browsing pages on the site and be able to store the duration in seconds of how long the cursor is left in specific areas on the user's screen (blocks of areas on the screen) back in my site's database. Is there a .net class which can handle this or can I only do this in JavaScript or AJAX? I am sure that mouse tracking can be done in Javascript but I can't really store …

Hi and I have been looking around and found that google has a few search api's but haven't yet found one that returns the results as a javascript/ajax array. Is it possible to at least get the google api to send the results to my website as a variable/array in javascript/ajax/php because can't see any reference to this. PS. This is in the php section because all results will eventually end up in php. Also I tried the file_get_contents() function and curl on the google homepage but google knows it's a bot.

Hi, I was wondering if there's a framework that can help me with the following: I currently have regex checks on html input fields that work 100%, I would like to also have a check to the database for duplicate records so that if the user enters an ID that is already taken, an alert will pop up and inform the user of this. --It would be easy to do it on the serverside, however, I need to do it once the page has already loaded, therefore, at runtime. Any suggestions? Perhaps open source code is out there for this …

I'm a newbie in programming. I spent few hours yesterday and today working on a small AJAX page with multiple combo boxes that are populated from the database. On both IE8 and opera, my beautiful double combo boxes just failed miserably. A part of what I was doing was to populate a double combo box with dynamic data from the database. I created an empty …

If you’re a Ruby or Python developer building AJAX applications, you’ve got to learn JavaScript. Even if you’re converting Ruby code to client-side JavaScript with a tool like RJS, it can still be helpful to know the AJAX component for adding features and debugging. Now Microsoft is promoting APAX and ARAX, techniques similar to AJAX that supplant JavaScript with Python and Ruby languages commonly used on the server side of the dynamic Web apps. The news was brought to light last week at O’Reilly’s RailsConf by Microsoft’s John Lam, who was there giving a talk on his …

In this, Rudder revealed the new technologies for building ‘next generation applications’ to more than 3000 developers attending the conference. He highlighted the releases of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0, Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office for the 2007 Microsoft Office system and ASP.NET AJAX, as well as urging the …

How much money does Microsoft need? As much as possible would appear to be the answer, considering that it has announced a $1.50 fee to download the Office 2007 Beta as from August 2nd. Claiming a requirement to cover server costs as a result of the 3 million people that have already participated in the trial in just a couple of months. This is, according to Microsoft, 500 percent more than was expected and hence the need for “a cost recovery measure” for future downloads although the online test drive version will remain free. Well whoopee doo on the generosity …

Good question, but the answer may not be as straightforward as the announcement this week by Microsoft, and the ongoing online media coverage, suggests. The impression given is that Microsoft is supporting the Open Document Format in Office 2007 by sponsoring an open source based translator. This will take documents in the native Office 2007 Open XML format and convert them to ODF ones. Great stuff considering that ODF did not even exist in the Microsoft universe as recently ago as 2005, what with it being a rival format and all, indeed, some would say THE rival as ODF is …

Reports of the death of PDF support within Office 2007 and Vista are not only presumptuous but wrong. Despite the high profile publicity given to a spat between Adobe and Microsoft over the ‘Save as PDF’ function seen in the Office 2007 Beta, there is no doubting that users will be able to do just that in the release version. What they won’t be able to do is do so out of the box. Instead, a totally free and downloadable plug-in will be made available by Microsoft. Apparently there have been discussions ongoing between Adobe and Microsoft for the best …
