1st part - people should, except their right to anonimity, be aware that internet is a public place, as a school, market, night club, etc. 2nd part - unfortunately, many parents don't know how to protect themselves on internet, too.

The simple fact of the matter is that all the education in the world isn't going to make a difference when people just don't care. Democracy has been broken for a long time now, and the Internet isn't going to fix that. It's not geared towards the kind of free society everyone was dreaming about back in the days of the "information highway&…

As we move ever further towards becoming a global community, where social networking and Web 2.0 concepts rule supreme, what has become of us from the perspective of identity? Technology drives ways to speed up, enhance and render our lives in the 21st century but at what cost. In a world where identity and digital identity are increasingly …

Web developers try to mirror the real life. They try to make it as realistic as possible, allowing you to chat real-time with other people on the Internet, buy and sell items, and tons of other stuff. If you're really paranoid about privacy, sure: you can use proxies to hide your IP address, remailers to hide your emai address, etc.. But "how…

I just had a client get upset over VPN. It was for another reason and I thought I'd share it here. First the cause of the failure. The VPN GEO relocates the device. That is, to the web, the device (PC, phone, pad, etc.) now looks like it is in the country that the VPN connects to the internet. So this can be a problem as Netflix and other …

rproffitt: Of course, the geo-location option is one reason many people use a VPN. Here in the UK, for example, a VPN that has 'home-router' exit points can avoid the media network VPN exit point blacklist and enable out of territory usage. Horses for courses. Which is kind of the point of my article: a VPN isn't a privacy tool, although it can be,…

AssertNull: VPN usage *can* be secure, but that rather depends on how you are measuring security of course. I'd recommend using a VPN (be that your own router homebrew or a subscription service - **NEVER** a free service IMHO) whenever you are using the Internet on a public/insecure connection somewhere such as a hotel, coffee shop or airport. That…

This is an old post but it's interesting to update it a little. The problem with 'VPN services' now is that most of the big names that are mass advertised are all owned by the same company - Kape Technologies (a known malware source). That company also has purchased and runs many different "Comparative " & "review" websites…

You need to set up a secure VPN to anonymize your IP address. There are commercial services for this, such as VyprVPN, and free services such as TOR. Using these services, the remote site sees the IP address assigned by the service, and unless they are logging the linkage between the address your connection has been assigned to your real IP address…

Tor is not a browser. It is an proxy software. your browser uses that software. Google "how proxies work" or "proxy" basically you use another remote computer to browse all the web sites. So it that proxy web site that gives you web site data and you only browse that proxy web site. It does your work, you browse thorugh it so…

There is no true way to be anonymous. In a top/ip session there is always a source and destination IP. While the destination may see the proxy or VPN service instead of your ip, the service you are using has a record of which ip initiated the connection. So in summary, you have to trust that the proxy or VPN service protects your identity.
