So, my twin boys start college (sixth form) this year and as their birthday is coming up I thought I'd kill two birds and buy them the laptop they need. I'm used to speccing out my own laptops for the office here, but when it is my money rather than my business it makes for a sharper focus. One lad is going to be studying art, the other music tech. So one needs to be able to run Abletron without hiccup (his 4GB RAM and i3 combo is underpowered), the other a variety of relatively low-end graphics stuff (not into …

Hi! I do have my own VB6 mp3-player, which uses "Un4seen BASS.DLL" audiolibrary to play mp3 files. It works fine, but it doesn't support reading album cover (picture) from ID3V2 tags. For reading tags in text format, I use imported vb6 class module, that I found few years ago. But there isn't any methods for reading album cover, either. Someone suggested using AudioGenie3.dll with VB6 wrapper and here is the function: Public Function ID3V2GetPictureFile(ByVal FileName As String, ByVal Index As Integer) As Integer ID3V2GetPictureFile = ID3V2GetPictureFileW(StrPtr(FileName), Index) End Function Return value: Int16 normally -1, 0 on error or index not …

Come with me if you want to rock. What is easily the greatest thing you’ve seen all week looks like an alternate ending to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, one that didn't leave me in tears and featured Ahhhnold rocking the main stage at Ozzfest, which isn't a far stretch this year with a leather-clad Rob Halford as a supporting act. The stainless steel stand, created by artist Christopher Conte, is a true marvel in every sense, much like the man behind the work. The Norwegian born illustration major earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art (BFA) from the Pratt …

I'm not the greatest artist in the world, but I do like to tinker with a bit of sketching. When my vision deteriorated to the point of this becoming difficult, I turned to my iPad for assistance. Using a stylus and a drawing app I found I was able to continue sketching. The ability to magnify the canvas to whatever was comfortable for me has, quite literally, been an eye opener. ![ekit01](/attachments/small/0/ekit01.jpg "align-right") There is no doubting though, that digital art is a very different beast to getting your fingers dirty with some charcoal and a piece of paper. Mainly, …

Hello all, I was wondering if there was a way to add cover art to an mp3 file using Java? I'm fine using 3rd party libraries. I have been using JID3(http://jid3.blinkenlights.org/) to add and edit ID3 tags of mp3 files but can't seem to find a way to add cover art to the files. Any ideas? Thanks! -Magnus

File under very strange but oh so true: Google has launched a bunch of new themes for the iGoogle personalised homepage by artists as diverse as Rolf Harris and Ronnie Wood. These iGoogle skins can be used freely to decorate and personalise your iGoogle homepage, apparently. I am not sure I would want the Rolling Stones to take over Google, but am absolutely certain I don't want Rolf Harris, he of the 'can you tell what it is yet' catch-phrase, anywhere near my search results. Rolf, once voted the most popular artist in the world by people who one has …

Network design can certainly be innovative, and to those of a technical persuasion even considered a thing of beauty. But is it art? That was the question posed by a handful of senior Microsoft folk, the editor of an IT magazine and an Emeritus Professor at an art gallery in London last night. I was there with the champagne and sushi set, listening to the great and good debate the create genius of IT professionals and the artistic value of their work. Wondering exactly how this Microsoft sponsored DesignIT event could actually achieve its aim of encouraging creativity and innovation …
