I have Snow Leopard and needed to install an update, the SMC v1.5 update. I downloaded it and installed it, appeared to install without error. I went to see if the update had been installed and it said it had been installed yet it also said I had 1 update, SMC v1.5 to install! I did the update again and it installed, now no more updates are showing but looking in the list of installed updates, there are several installs of one update on many days like a Thunderbolt update 1.3 installed 4 times! Am I missing something here, like …

So i set up a L2TP/ipsec VPN server on my mac running 10.6.x. I can connect to the VPN from my LAN, but not from outside of it. This is from my HTC evo. I set up a VPN server using a virtual machine of 10.6.x Server, with the same results (can connect inside LAN, but not outside). Not that it makes any difference, but I can't connect either when I'm on my LAN but going outside my LAN and coming back (that is, the destination address isn't a local private address but rather my WAN IP address). I can't imagine the issue is of much interest outside the UK (although I see the New York Times is having a laugh at our expense, understandably) but it's been snowing a bit in London. This will become important in a minute, bear with me. I should explain that in London we don't get much snow. Half an inch of the white flaky stuff and we tend to panic. Our roads and rails were built primarily by Victorians who weren't expecting anything other than a variation on 'mild' in weather terms and now that we're getting more severe conditions we …

This morning I awoke to read news headlines declaring the worst snow the UK had seen for some 13 years, with reports of thousands of minor accidents and major motorway networks grinding to a halt. In London the public transport system collapsed, with London Buses, Underground and trains all being taken out of service as it was too dangerous to continue. However, one timely news alert caught my attention as it was from Sat Nav outfit TomTom. The snow had caused 388 traffic jams on major UK roads, it informed me, with the TomTom HD live traffic reporting service showing …
