Hello, Can you help me. I have a iMac G3 CRT. 600MHz, 40Gb, 1Gb SDRAM. It was running nicely with Panther (OS 10.3), I read lots of scary posts about firmware disasters on upgraded iMacs so I checked my firmware and it wasn't 4.1.9 as it should have been (it was 4.1.3). I know that firmware can't be updated unless you are running OS 9. I put in a OS 9 install disk but the computer wouldn't install by clicking, I tried restarting holding down C and it still wouldn't boot from it. I read the instructions on the disk (I opened it on the desktop) and it told me to go to system prefs. open something or other and click on the icon of the CD asking it to start from that. Big mistake!! now the computer can't find a drive to start from. All I get is the flashing question mark. I have tried restarting holding down 'option' I get the screen where you should be able to select the drive you want to start from but all it shows are the two arrows. It will do a search if I click the curved arrow but can't detect anything. I have tried putting in it's factory restore/install CD whilst I do the option restart but it can't detect it. I am completely stuck.
It is so frustrating as I never actually got to install OS 9. The hard drive is just as it was but the computer doesn't know it's there. At first I was worried that all my photos, documents and emails were trapped in there but now I am worried that the computer is just a door stop.
