I know there are many other threads asking the same question, but I am such a newbie when it comes to computers and am unable to figure out what I am suppose to do, so I decided to post my own thread.

My computer whenever it loads up, explorer.exe will not show up. I scanned my computer for viruses and found 0. When I go into task manager and start a new task to make it show up, explorer.exe will pop up for about 10 seconds then turn off again. Sometimes it will randomly continue to try to pop up again, but it then fails and disappears soon after. What should I do to get my explorer.exe back?

Did you run your scans in safe mode? And yes i said scan's'. No one spyware app can get all the nasties.

Dugrall. Hi and welcome to the Daniweb forums :).

==========

Download HijackThis Executable from here. Save it to your desktop.
Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and then go to the format Tab and make sure that wordwrap is unchecked. Copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

Please go back and read the first line of my last post.

Yeah I saw that, but I'm confused how exactly you mean for me to do that? Just change the shortcut name or what?

0

You should have mentioned that in your last post :). You need to rename the file, not the shortcut. If I meant shortcut, that's what I would have wrote :)

Yeah I don't know how to do that.

0

I don't see hijackthis.exe anywhere that I can rename.

I'm probably just really stupid, but can you be a little more descriptive, I can't find it.

0

Open My Computer and go to your C drive.Follow this path until you get to hijackthis;

C:\Program Files > Trend Micro > HijackThis > HijackThis.exe

k got it, but my problem didn't go away heres another log file

I know :). It wasn't meant to. If you take a look though, you will see entries there now that were hidden before :.

==

Run hijackthis again and place a check to the left of the following entries;

O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcBRLCU - ddcBRLCU.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: nnnmkKaA - C:\WINDOWS\

Now, close all Internet Explorer windows (this one too) and select Fix checked.

Reboot your pc and post a new hijackthis log. Let me know how the pc is now.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Run Combofix ONCE only!!

Can you please do the following.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY...ION&pf=desktop
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY...ION&pf=desktop

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Let's get rid of Combofix now that we are finished with it. Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the /, it needs to be there.

==

Should be fine now.
