I need help with a trojan downloader virus I just obtained on my PC. I purchased the full version of exterminate it, and every time I deleted the files it would come back. Exterminate it eventually stopped working and will not even open now. I included my hijack this log. As well as my ESET online log. I also downloaded and tried using MBA-M but as soon as the setup finished it gives me 'MBA-M has stopped working error' and I am unable to open it. Thanks for your help!

Sorry to tell you but Exterminate It is considered a ROGUE program so it is actually worthless and can actually cause damage to your computer. See all this info
You need to get that off of there ASAP. Uninstall it if possible.
DON'T just delete it. That will leave much of the program there.

You need to do the following:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.
Reboot the Computer

Run a NEW HJT scan and save the log. Post back here with the MBA-M log and the new HJT log.

Thanks for the exterminate it heads up. I will uninstall it immediately. I have already downloaded MBA-M to my PC and run the setup, but I can not open the program. It gives me a 'MBA-M has stopped working error', when I try to open it, and it closes down. Is there a way to get around this?

Before Judy gets here, you need to move hijackthis as you are running it from a zip file. It will not be able to save backups from there.

# Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
# Restart your computer (very important).
# Download and run this utility. mbam-clean.exe
# It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).
# After the computer restarts, try again to install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here Then follow the instructions given.

Okay that was a mission. It's gettn worse I wasnt able to connect to the internet for a while, but I'm back up. I followed all your directions, used the tool to remove, rebooted, then reinstalled per your link, and it is still giving me the same error message when I try to open the program. Is there anything else I can try?

You might try the ESET Online scanner and attach the ScanLog with your post for assistance.

* You will need to use Internet Explorer to to complete this scan.
* You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.

* Be sure the option to Remove found threats is checked and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
* When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us as directed below.

Alright some progress here you go.

Ok, yes some progress. Now, you have NO active anti-virus program that I can see on the computer...correct? Get one.
Do this:
Download the FREE Avira anti-virus program. It is a very light, excellent but non-instrusive anti-virus. It works well I have used it for several years.
Install it, update it and run a full system scan with it. Quarantine or Delete everything it finds.

Then AGAIN, try MBA-M. If you must uninstall the last one you downloaded, do so and try again. Install and Update of course
Close out everything you don't need...no surfing in other words...do a Full Scan, Remove everything found, save the log.
Reboot.
Do a new HJT scan and post back with both logs. I don't need the Avira log, just a list of what was removed and from where.

Okay, tried to uninstall and install MBA-M several more times with the same result. Installed AVScan, and ran another hijack this:

Just realized, with all this scanning, install, uninstall, etc., I neglected to ask you HOW DID YOU KNOW, without any security software installed, that you had a a trojan downloader on your computer?

Windows Defender started popping up a warning... saying its detected trojan downloader win32 renos, and would ask if I wanted to remove. Every time I would remove it, it would pop back up again a little while later.

Ok, next thing you need to do is update your Java program, it is woefully out of date. To do this go HERE
Download the Offline Install program and save it to the desktop.
Close out unnecessary programs. Then go to Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove. Uninstall ALL old versions of Java that you find there.
Once all are uninstalled then double click that Install file on your desktop and install the newest version. Once that is complete go back to the download page I linked to above and on the right side of that page you will see Verify Now. Click that to go to the verification page and be certain the installation was complete.

Then run one more HJT scan and post the log, we are almost finished...UNLESS you are still getting that warning from Windows Defender.

Tell you what, humor me, just for the heck of it since ESET found and removed infections and the Avira gave you a clean log I would like you to try this just one more time:

Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
Restart your computer (very important).
Download and run this utility. mbam-clean.exe
It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).
After the computer restarts, try again to install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here Then follow the instructions given.

This is such a good program I just cannot stand that you cannot take advantage of it. If you get it installed and running, be sure to update fully and do the Full Scan, have it remove everything found.
Reboot and THEN do the HJT scan. Post back with both logs...hopefully

I still can not get MBA-M working. My computer is starting to slow down and sometimes will not load windows when I restart my PC, the screen just stays black. Avira has just detected malware which I deleted... here is the event log:

Virus or unwanted program 'TR/Patched.HB.5 [trojan]'

Ok then we have to bring out the "big gun" do the following:
download ComboFix from Here or Here

Save it to the desktop. Don't run it yet.

Close all open Windows including this one.
Close or disable all running Antivirus, Antispyware, and Firewall programs as they may interfere with the proper running of ComboFix.

Once these two steps have been completed, double-click on the ComboFix icon found on your desktop. Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when ComboFix is running, do not touch your computer at all. The scan could take a while, so please be patient.

Windows may then issue a prompt because Combofix doesn't have a digital signature, this is perfectly normal. Just click Continue.
Next you will see a disclaimer screen, click Yes.
Then allow the program to run. This will take awhile so be patient, remember Don't Touch your computer while the program is running as it can actually stop it from running. Combofix may change your clock while running, don't worry it will change it back upon completion.
When ComboFix has finished running, you will see a screen stating that it is preparing the log report, this too can take awhile so be patient. When all is complete you will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
Please copy/paste that log back here.

Hey, Im on my laptop now, my PC is failing. I was in the process of uninstalling MBM-A again, and on the restart I'm getting a blue screen error stating: "Stop: c0000135 (unable to locate component) This application has failed to start becaus GDI32.dll was not found. reinstalling may fix this problem."

I have been trying to restart in safe mode and getting the same blue screen error!

Sounds like a reformat may be the only option.
