Brief expert summary: the HijackThis output contains multiple classic signs of adware/toolbar infection — altered browser search/home settings, an unknown BHO, several randomly named autorun and rundll entries, and orphaned or missing service files. Those symptoms commonly interfere with IM clients (AIM) because adware can hook networking layers or block connections.

Practical cleanup workflow (do these in order and back up first): create a full backup of important data and a system restore point (or disk image); move HijackThis to a permanent folder and save a fresh log; boot to Safe Mode with Networking; run two different, up-to-date anti-malware scanners (for example, an anti-spy and a dedicated malware scanner) and allow them to remove items and reboot as needed. Use Sysinternals Autoruns to disable suspicious startups (hide Microsoft entries first) and Process Explorer to locate running processes and their file paths — that makes it safe to identify which files to remove. Use HijackThis only to "fix checked" entries you can positively identify as malicious; if unsure, post the new log rather than using Fix All.

AIM/connectivity troubleshooting: adware often installs Layered Service Providers (LSPs) or other network hooks. After removals, open an elevated command prompt and run:

netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns

then reboot. If the OS does not support that command or connectivity still fails, remove the offending LSPs with a dedicated LSP-fix tool or clean the system offline (boot CD/rescue environment).

Final notes and cautions: do not delete files or registry keys without a backup — some autoruns belong to legitimate software. After a clean, create a fresh restore point, update OS/AV, and change passwords for sensitive accounts. As advised, run scans and post a new HijackThis log (run from its own folder) and list any files scanners could not remove so specific entries can be recommended.

Hi. You are running hijackthis from a temporary folder, can you please create a folder on your desktop and move hijackthis into it and run it from there.

Run the PurityScan uninstaller.

Go here to TrendMicro for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you. When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Try this scan at Panda as well.

The scan here does not require an active X install, but uses java instead.

Reboot and post another log.
