Hi, I need some help with this because it's driving my friends crazy. My Yahoo email account was hacked by this spammer and I can't get rid of the virus by using Kaspersky anti-virus, running the full scan. The trojan keeps using my email address to spam my friends with viagra ads. Can you help me?

Thank you so much!

Clotilde

Hello Clotilde, You DO need to follow all the steps in the link that Rik gave you and post back here with all the requested logs because it is likely that the computer itself, not only your Yahoo account, has been hacked which puts any personal information like bank account numbers, credit card numbers and the like that you have on the computer at great risk.

One thing that jumps out at me in the HJT log is this entry:
O4 - Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\iTunes\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe

As PP says in the link that Rik gave you:

Please Uninstall or Disable any P2P (peer-to-peer) programs on the infected computer before posting in this forum.
P2P software circumvents common-sense security measures and opens a user’s computer to a world of hurt.

P2P file sharing is one of the easiest ways to infect a computer and very likely the way you have gotten this infection. By having this program auto start with each boot of the computer then the door is wide open every time you turn on the computer. Because this program is in your iTunes folder this tells me also that it is used to down load copyrighted music without paying for it, which is illegal and people have been prosecuted, found guilty and given very large fines for doing this.

Limewire itself was ordered by the courts in October 2010 to cease operations, please note the message now on the Limewire website that I have attached.

These Limewire and any other P2P downloads can be easily traced directly to your Internet Provider who can then easily track them directly to your computer which can result in, if they choose to do so, the cancellation of your account with them. It can happen and it DOES happen everyday. Large fines and cancellation of an internet account are very large prices to pay just to save a few dollars for music.

You need to uninstall this Limewire program immediately, along with any other P2P programs you may have on there and I also would recommend the removal of any music files from the computer you have obtained via Limewire or other P2P programs be deleted, they can and likely do contain infected files.

I would also recommend that if you have moved any of these files to your iPod that they also be removed from it. The iPod itself cannot be infected but the files moved to it may contain infection so that any computer that you plug that iPod into can then be infected by that infected file. So if you get this computer cleaned up and then plug that iPod back into the computer the computer can get reinfected. So clean that shared music off of the iPod or iPods, if you have more than one, also.

One other thing you need to do immediately is log into your Yahoo account, change your password and security question.

I got Limewire a long time agoa nd never used it again. . .I got rid of it.

But my problem s that I'm worse off now than before. I changed my password in Yahoomail and because it didn't recoginze it, I wnt through the process again. This time, the email has a hidden password (a blank space that I cannot see no matter what)I need to get into my email but cannot, because I cannot complete the process of changing the password!

You still have not followed the steps given in the Read Me Sticky as requested by Rik,

HJT does not give us the information we need to see.

Please do those steps and post back with those logs and we will be most happy to help you.
