I have been reading of Intel's Desktop Utilities and find the package very attractive. I wonder if any here have had a bad experience with it.

But my main concern is that they include in the package, "Symantec Security Check".

Symantec routinely hides a rootkit in its Norton SystemWorks program suite. On Jan 10, 2006, after being found out they issued a patch that will enable users to see this hidden file. ( I do not run Norton's). I have two questions:

1. Does anyone know if the rootkit was planted in the Intel System Security Check?

2. If so, has the Symantec Jan 10 patch been extended to this package?

I will hold off downloading Intel's Desktop Utilities in the interim - thanks for any advice I might get here.
