Useful follow-ups and a short verification checklist to complement the excellent removal work already posted by @swatfish and . Those replies removed the active components; the steps below help confirm nothing was left behind and reduce the chance of reinfection.

After cleanup — quick verification checklist

  • Confirm symptoms are gone in every user account and in more than one browser (if installed).
  • Inspect startup entries and services for any remaining unknown names or recently created files; remove or disable anything with random-letter names or unknown publishers.
  • Check network settings (proxy, DNS and the hosts file) and restore them to default if altered.
  • Look for scheduled tasks and old System Restore points; remove infected restore points and create a fresh, clean restore point once the system is confirmed clean.
  • Run an on-boot or offline/rootkit scan if odd processes persist (bootable rescue tools catch things that normal scans can miss).

Cleanup hardening and post-clean steps

  • Uninstall unwanted toolbars/add-ons from Add/Remove Programs or the browser add-on manager, and clear browser cache/temporary files before rescanning.
  • If manual file deletions were performed, make sure the matching service/registry startup entries were removed so the files do not reappear.
  • Change passwords for any accounts used on the machine and monitor financial accounts for unusual activity.
  • If doubts remain or symptoms return, collect current diagnostics and ask for help again — include OS/service pack, recent changes, and the latest scan/log outputs so helpers can avoid repeating prior steps.

When cleaning fails or the system is unstable, a clean OS install from known media is the most reliable solution.

Hi,
Download CCleaner and install it. Do not run it now!

Download and install . After download, double click on the file to launch the install process. During installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". Launch ewido by double-clicking the "e" icon on your desktop. The program will prompt you to update - click the "OK" button. On the left side of the main screen, click on "Update" and then click "Start Update". The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. After the updates are installed, you will see "Update Successful" in the lower left corner.
If you are having problems with the updater, use this to manually update.
Exit Ewido when done - DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Make Windows to show all files:-
Go to Start > My Computer. Go to Tools menu, click Folder Options. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, click to select the option Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply and then click OK to exit.

Reboot in Safe Mode:-
Restart (or switch ON) the PC. Then, keep tapping the F8 Key. From the menu that will be displayed, out of which choose Safe Mode and press Enter.

Run HijackThis and click Do only a System scan.
Then put a check mark infront of below listed entries:-

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.gatewaybiz.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.gatewaybiz.com

Close all other open programs except Hijackthis and click the button Fix Checked in HijackThis.

Exit from HijackThis. Delete these files:-
C:\WINNT\loutyrumrh.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\o4cypxp.dll
C:\WINNT\System32\rrfuj.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\9y622m7.exe

Delete these folders:-
C:\Program Files\TBONAS

Run CCleaner, click "Options" button and here go to "Advanced" tab and uncheck the option "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours". Click OK to exit from the Options. Finally click "Run Cleaner" and click "OK" to continue cleaning.

Run Ewido, click on the "Scanner" button in the left menu, then click on the "Settings", here select the option "Scan every file" and click "OK". Next, click "Complete System Scan" button to start scan. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "Clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.

Reboot to Normal Mode. Perform an online virus scan at Kaspersky Online Scanner. Save the log it gives after the scan.

Run HijackThis again, click Do a System scan and save log, and post the fresh log along with the Kaspersky log.

ok here are both those logs. Good thing is that so far I've had no popups so I hope its fixed!!

as for the Kaspersky Online Scanner, well this laptop has 56k and I only use it on the weekends and need to take off so that is taking too long, if you think I need to run it then I will when I get back here next weekend

Hi,
Log looks clean :) If the PC is running fine, then there's no need to do the Kaspersky scan.

Alrite, I see several things wrong with the log...next time just start a new thread. Alrite, fix the following:

After fixing these, reboot into safe mode (when restarting, continually tap F8). While in safe mode, find and delete these files:

C:\Program Files\Need2Find
C:\Program Files\RXToolbar
C:\Program Files\TBONbin

Lastly, restart, run HJT and post a new log. We'll work from there.

Thanks.

Looks clean to me. Are ya still having symptoms? If so, I'll thorougly scrutinize the log further. Also, it wouldn't hurt to download CCleaner if ya don't got it already (I already see Ewido running). The link for this is above.

Thanks

Just would like to note a few things
-I have actually had users use the uninstall method and had no problems with it, this has been a while ago, and I am not sure if you gave it a shot first or not
-Please make sure you have the latest version of AdwareAlert. It was on SpywareWarrior's Rogue Suspect List for a while.

No more symptons! Woohoo. Thanks dude!
