Hi,
I've seen this problem on another post and tried everything suggested, but still can't get it to stop. I'm hoping that by posting the log someone can figure out how to stop this spyware/virus.
I'm having a problem with my yahoo and google search results. When I do a search and click the link I get redirected to the site that the hijacker is trying to promote which is similar to the search that I asked for. If I got back and reclick, I get a different site, but still not the site that the search engine results indicates. Upon the third back/click I get the site which the search engine intended. I've been through three other posts and tried the solutions without avail, but I'm willing to try anything, even twice, to get this to stop happening. Please let me know if you can figure this out. Attached is the log from HiJackThis! Thanks in advance. -Justin

Summary and follow‑ups from this thread: the search‑result redirects seen by were caused by a persistent infection that altered browser/startup and name resolution behavior. The cleanup tool suggested by plus the ewido scan used after that removed the active payload and the redirects stopped. For anyone reading later with the same symptom, the short checklist below helps verify the system is clean and closes common persistence vectors so the problem does not come back.

Quick verification checklist (do these after a reboot and before heavy web browsing):

  • Check current DNS and adapter details with ipconfig /all. Unexpected DNS servers are a telltale sign of interception.
  • Clear the local resolver cache and re‑test name lookups:
    ipconfig /flushdns
    nslookup www.google.com
  • Inspect the hosts file for injected entries: notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  • Check for unknown proxy settings or browser helper objects, and review startup items with a trusted autorun/startup viewer. Remove any entries you did not install.
  • Run a second on‑demand scanner (different vendor than your AV) and, if available, an offline rescue image to catch things running at boot.

If redirects return after cleaning:

  • Test another machine or a phone on the same network. If it shows the same redirect, the router/gateway may have been altered. Log into the router, verify DNS settings, change the admin password, and perform a factory reset and firmware update if needed.
  • If only the infected PC shows symptoms, a full OS reimage is the most certain way to remove deeply rooted infections.

Prevention notes: keep the OS and browser patched, avoid unnecessary toolbars and unknown installers, use a layered defense (real‑time AV + periodic on‑demand scans), and keep regular backups or system images. Credit to and for the diagnostic and cleanup steps that resolved this case.

Awsome. Well I hope we can cure ya :)

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

Click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

Thanks.

Okay, I had a little problem getting Fixwareout to run, but I finally got a competed message. However there was never a log generated. I didn't want to run it again, but let me know if I should.
It's probably a good sign that my hard drive isn't running constantly like it's deriving pie as it has been. I had the feeling something ugly was going on in there. It's pretty chill now, so I'm pretty encouraged at this point. :)

I couldn't find the line for "04- dmpoo.exe" but I checked all the others.
Here's the new HJit log:

Let me know what's next. Thanks again so much!!!

Log looks good. I see you have Ewido installed. If you could please scan with that, and post a log it would be great :).

Running scan now. It should take about 35 mins. Back with the log in a few.

Okay below are the logs. Ewido, Spybot, and just about every other cleaning program I have keeps finding this Trojan, but it never seems to go away. The other name I've seen is Pipas.A. Maybe it's the same thing, I don't know.
Thanks again for helping me through this. Please advise on how to proceed.
