Hi,
Download CCleaner and install it. Do not run it now!

Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.

  • Double click on Avenger.zip to open the file and extract avenger.exe to your Desktop.
  • Copy the below quoted text (which is a script for Avenger) into your clipboard by highlighting it and pressing CTRL C keys:-

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\ALCWZRD.EXE
c:\nj.exe
C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\3f5adcde.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\CK\Local Settings\Application Data\3f5adcde.exe
C:\winstall.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\funk.exe

Folders to delete:
C:\Program Files\winupdates

  • Now, run The Avenger program by double clicking its icon on your Desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script".
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing Ctrl V keys.
  • Click Done.
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:-

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the reboot, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger's actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt

Run HijackThis and click Do only a System scan.
Then put a check mark infront of below listed entries:-

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcWzrd] ALCWZRD.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [funk] funk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [3f5adcde.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\3f5adcde.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows installer] C:\winstall.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [3f5adcde.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\CK\Local Settings\Application Data\3f5adcde.exe

Close all other open programs except Hijackthis and click the button Fix Checked in HijackThis.

Run CCleaner, click "Options" button and here go to "Advanced" tab and uncheck the option "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours". Click OK to exit from the Options. Finally click "Run Cleaner" and click "OK" to continue cleaning.

Reboot the PC. Run HijackThis again, click Do a System scan and save log, and post the fresh log along with the Avenger og.

Also, after doing above mentioned steps, please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

My desktop backround has dissapeared and i can't change it through properties can u help fix it ?

thanks

Hi,
Let's fix the background issue now! Reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt.

By the way, have you added these sites to Trusted Zone in Internet Explorer?

www.6arab.com
www.wassoufclub.com

If yes, then you can leave them as it is. If you have NOT added them, then run HijackThis and remove these two entries:-

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.6arab.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.wassoufclub.com

After this, perform an online virus scan at Kaspersky Online Scanner (Click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button). Save the log it gives after the scan. Run HijackThis again, click Do a System scan and save log, and post the fresh log along with the Kaspersky log and SmitfraudFix log

Hi

I completed the steps which you told me to do, however i was encountered with a problem which you didn't tell me about (i don't know if it effects the computer) i followed this step: Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection..

I received a message after pressing Y and enter stating: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction". It gave me the option of close or ignore which i tried both but it would not execute the option i selected. The temporary files were deleted, i rebooted because the computer did not rebot on its own and received the rapport.txt. i repeated the process twice but encountered the same problem.

the backround problem was not fixed. I go to properties and click on the backround tab but can't change the backround it is frozen, i can't click on the "browse" and "position" options i can only click on the "color" option.

here are the logs:

Hi,
Download XP_FIX and save it on Desktop. Next, run it to fix the "NTVDM....16 bit subsystem" error.

After this, reboot your computer in Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press Enter.

Along with the SmitfraudFix log, post a fresh HijackThisl log too.

Hi Swatkat

Same problem again. I ran Xp FIX and then rebooted into safe mode and done the step you told me to do, i was encountered with the same problem when cleaning the registry :C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
Is there a problem which you can see?, how can i fix it?

here are the logs:

Will there be a solution for this

Hi,
Let's try a different program. Download roguescanfix_setup.

Doubleclick roguescanfix_setup to install it.

After the installation, you will be prompted if you would like to run roguescanfix now. Click "YES" to start the tool.

When you start roguescanfix.bat you'll see a menu:
1. Run Roguescanfix
2. Run sharedtasksrem

Choose option 1 by typing "1".

Note: This tool needs internet connection because it downloads an additional file to let the tool work properly.
If your firewall gives an alert, allow it instead of blocking it.
In case you still get the message BFU.exe is not present, download BFU.zip from HERE
Unzip it and place BFU.exe in the c:\program files\roguescanfix-folder. Then doubleclick Roguescanfix.bat again.

The tool will uninstall some programs and delete related files and registrykeys.
When some files won't get deleted, it will ask you to reboot your system to delete the files after reboot.
Please make sure the uninstall of the programs are finished before you click Yes to reboot.

A textfile will open. Place the contents of that file in your next reply, along with a new Hijackthis logfile.
(The textfile can also be found at c:\program files\roguescanfix\task.txt)

i still can't change backround.

Hi,

Right-click HERE and choose "Save As" (or "Save Link As" or "Save Target As") option and save the file. Save the file with its default filename that is, smitfraud.reg, at any convinient location.

Make Windows to show all files:-
Go to Start > My Computer. Go to Tools menu, click Folder Options. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, click to select the option Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply and then click OK to exit.

Delete these files:-
C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Shared\horse racing.zip
C:\WINDOWS\hosts
C:\WINDOWS\sys3849.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sys3950.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sys633.exe

After deleting above mentioned files, double-click on the Smitfraud.REG file. And, allow it to merge it to Registry by choosing "Yes" option.

Reboot the PC. And, please post back whether you can change the background now or not.

Thankyou swatkat for all your help i appreciate it so much you are a genius:)

The computer is superb, the backround is fixed.

I can't thankyou enough for all your help you have saved me so much money and time at least i know who to always ask for help:) :)

Can i always use the smitfraud.reg to repair backround or must i follow the whole procedure?

Thanks very much ;)

Hi,
Glad to hear that everything's alright now :D Actually, that "red circle with cross" in System Tray and the changed wallpaper are due to the Smitfraud/Spyfalcon family of malware. When you see any symptoms in future, the malware files should be removed first (using tools like SmitfraudFix). Most of the times, tools like SmitfraudFix are able to restore the Desktop background too.
But, if they fail then Smitfraud.reg can be used to restore the Registry settings related to Desktop background. But, Smitfraud.reg is only a Registry entry file, and is not a Smitfraud/Spyfalcon removal tool.

[Edit]
I think everything's ok now, shall I lock this thread?

If you wish to close it you can.

Thanks swatkat.
