1. Exactly what kind of adware messages/windows are you getting?

2. Download the (free) HijackThis utility:
Once downloaded, follow these instructions to install and run the program:

Create a folder for HJT outside of any Temp/Temporary folders and move the HijackThis.exe file to that folder now. A folder such such as C:\HijackThis or C:\Spyware Tools\HijackThis will do.

Run HijackThis, but do not have HJT fix anything yet; only have it scan your system! Once the scan is complete, the "Scan" button will turn into an option to "Save log...".
Save the log in the folder you created for HijackThis; the saved file will be named "hijackthis.log". Open the log file with Windows Notepad, and cut-n-paste the entire contents of the Notepad file here.

The log contents will tell us a lot about what "nasties" have crept into your system, and once we analyse the log we can tell you what to do from there.

Yes indeed, you do have Nasties. please do the following:

You will need to close/quit all web browser programs and disconnect from the Internet for much of the following, so you should print out these instructions or save them into a text file with Notepad.

* Download the most current updates for your antivirus program.

* Download the following two utilities:
CCleaner - www.ccleaner.com
ewido Anti-malware - http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install and configure CCleaner:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files".
9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button. Your computer is now configured to show all hidden files.

Install CCleaner. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\History
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Cookies
C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'. Close CCleaner after that.

Install and configure ewido:

  • Close all other Applications Select language click Ok
  • Click I Agree
  • Click next
  • Click Install
  • Click Finish
  • Wait Ewido will open main screen automatically.
  • Wait again a few minutes and Ewido Should Auto update itself. If it doesn't click update at top of screen. (It is very important to get the updates)
  • Don't run a scan with ewido yet; just close the program when the updating has finished.

*
Open your Add/Remove Programs control panel and uninstall the Daily Weather Forecast program if it is listed there. Also uninstall the Viewpoint software.

* Run HijackThis again, put a check mark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, and then click the "Fix checked" button. close HJT once the fixes are completed:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Daily Weather Forecast] C:\Program Files\Daily Weather Forecast\weather.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ouur] "C:\DOCUME~1\Smiles\APPLIC~1\SSTEM~1\smss.exe" -vt tzt
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ungians] C:\WINDOWS\system32\l?ass.exe
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: scanregw.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\scanregw.dll

* Reboot into Safe Mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up).

* Run CCleaner. It may take a while for the program to perform its cleaning, so be patient. Close the program when it has finished.

* Run your antivirus program; have it clean all malicious items it finds.

* Open Ewido

  • Click on scanner top of Ewido sceen
  • Click on Settings
  • Under How to Act click on Recommended Action choose Quarantine
  • Under How to scan all boxes should be selected
  • Under Possibly unwanted software all boxes should be selected
  • On right side under Reports: click on Automatically generate report after every scan.
  • Under What to scan select scan every file
  • Click On scan Tab
  • Click on Complete system scan
  • Let the program scan the machine It can take awhile give it time.
  • When scan has finished At bottom of screen click Apply all Actions
  • Click Save report
  • Click Save Report as (Save as window's screen should pop up.)
  • Click desktop
  • Click Save
  • Exit ewido

*
* Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

* Search your entire computer for the scanregw.dll file and delete it if found:

*
Delete the following folders entirely:
C:\Program Files\Daily Weather Forecast
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\DOCUME~1\Smiles\APPLIC~1\SSTEM~1
Note that in the above entry, the "~1" is indicating that the names of the folders have been truncated to their DOS 8-character equivalent; the true, full names will consist of other letters in place of the "~1". You will have to figure out what SSTEM~1 really is, but you'll probably find the rest of the real path name to be C:\Documents and Settings\Smiles\Application Data\

*
Empty your Recycle Bin, reboot normally, run HijackThis again, and post the new log. Also post the log that ewido generated.

For some reason, many of the infected files appear to be refusing to be deleted. Please do the following:

You will need to close/quit all web browser programs and disconnect from the Internet for much of the following, so you should print out these instructions or save them into a text file with Notepad.

* Download these two utilities and save them to a convenient folder:

ATF-Cleaner
Killbox

* Run HijackThis again, put a check next to the following entry, and then click the "Fixed Checked" button. Close HJT after the fix completes:
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: scanregw.dll

* Reboot the computer into Safe Mode again; you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up. (this is an important step!)
Once in Safe Mode:

* Open ATF-Cleaner.
- In the main window, put a check mark in the "Select All" box and then click the "Empty Selected".
- Click "OK" when you get the "Done" dialog and then click the "Exit" button in the program's main window.

* Open Killbox.

- In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following
C:\WINDOWS\System32\scanregw.dll

- Select the "Replace on reboot", "Use Dummy", and "Unregister dll before deleting" options.
- Click on the button with the red circle with the X in the middle and then click Yes at the "Replace on Reboot" confirmation prompt. Click No when prompted to reboot now.

* Open Ewido

* Restart your computer in normal mode and run HijakcThis again; post the new HJT log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
