Hi. I have this same problem (about:blank page with Search for...)

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder or directly on the desktop & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

Download and install APM from: http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=apm

Close all windows except HijackThis and fix the lines above.

In the upper window of APM select explorer.exe
In the lower window find and rightclick the BHO from the HijackThis log
Select Unload DLL and click OK on the prompts that follow.

Reboot and scan with AdAware to remove the txt and html protocol association.

Thanks, that did work for a while. However, the browser today reverted to the about:blank page with different registry keys.

I only visited common pages between then and now, i.e. eBay, comcast.net, google--so I'm not sure how this problem has recurred. I will visit your "how you got infected" link to try and prevent this in the future.

Also I am getting a "Virtual Memory minimum too low" caution message, where Windows has to increase the size of my page file.

Okay. Thanks, that did help for a while. However, when I started IE, my browser was hijacked again. I viewed the HJT log, and the offending BHO was hkjk.dll--which, like my last two (posted) BHO's have filenames with 4 random chars. Obviously there is still a driver file or system process that is spawning or helping to spawn copies of the dll file. If anyone is familiar with this problem and how to fix it, that would be of great help. By default I suppose I can keep deleting the keys and the BHO :eek:

I deleted that log but now I have a new one. This time the .dll is six chars long. Please note gafama.dll.

- Reboot into safe mode (hit F8 at startup) and delete:

- Open the Internet Options control panel. In the Temporary Internet files section, delete Cookies and files (including offline content).

- Empty your Recycle Bin and reboot.

- Install SpywareBlaster if you haven't already; download the latest updates and enable all protection.
