Thank you in advance!
Although I mostly use Mozilla, I have to use IE for my work - I need to do on-line web demos using Genesys software (which requires Java VM) and does not work with Mozilla. Unfortunately, I must have evil stuff installed, because IE freezes after a couple of minutes of starting a meeting. It is always after a number of popups appear, and it seems to "choke" my IE. I use Spybot and CWShredder, and goto Safe Mode to remove files, but the problem still occurs. PLease help!

Brief summary of outcome and extra steps to make the cleanup permanent: ’s troubleshooting (updates, multiple scanners, and targeted removal of suspicious startup/BHO entries) resolved the immediate IE freezes reported by . The freeze pattern—many popups followed by the browser hanging while a Java-based meeting ran—is consistent with browser helpers, injected DLLs or proxy hijacks interfering with Internet Explorer’s process and with the Java plug‑in.

Why that causes hangs (short explanation): browser helper objects run inside IE and can block or crash the browser when they display popups, hook network calls, or conflict with plug‑ins. A hijacked proxy or injected DLL can route traffic to slow or malicious servers and make a Java meeting client appear to “choke.” Removing the offending startup items and BHOs typically restores stability.

Actionable post‑cleanup checklist (do these after creating a backup/restore point):

  • Run a current, full AV + antimalware scan with updated definitions.

  • Use Autoruns (Sysinternals) to inspect all startup items, scheduled tasks and BHOs; disable anything unfamiliar and reboot.

  • Verify browser proxy settings are cleared (LAN settings) and reset IE to defaults; clear temp files and reinstall the Java runtime used by the meeting client.

  • Run system file verification to check OS integrity:

    sfc /scannow
  • Inspect the hosts file for unexpected entries and run a reputable rootkit scan if any odd services persist.

  • Make a fresh system backup or disk image once the machine is clean.

Prevention notes: keep Windows, IE and Java patched; avoid rogue “anti‑spyware” tools; limit admin use for daily work; keep regular backups. The thread shows a correct workflow—identify, update, scan, remove, and verify—so the fix is likely complete once the checklist above is followed.

Hi. First of all you need to update hijackthis to version 1.98.1 Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. Remove 1.97 from the folder it is in & replace it with 1.98.1. (Put hijackthis into it's own folder)

Please go here & install ALL updates required for your system.

Download & instal Adaware from
& update it before scanning.
In settings under 'scanning,' have it set to
'scan within archives,'
'scan active processes,'
'scan registry,'
'deepscan registry'
'scan my IE Favourites for banned URL's,'
'scan my host's file.'
In 'tweaks' under 'scanning engine' set it to 'unload recognised processes during scanning.'
Also in 'tweaks' under 'cleaning engine' set it to 'Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion' & 'let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.'
Select 'activate in-depth scan' before starting scan.
When the scan is finished select 'next.'
Remove what it finds by placing a check in the box to the left of the object. Reboot

Go here for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you.

Try this scan as well.

Post a new log after please.

OK. I did everything you said! Here is a new log.

Ok. I see that you did not do all I requested. The Microsoft updates still need doing as both XP & IE need to have service pack 1 installed, at least.
Uninstall spykiller for the following reason; http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Open Task Manager by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Delete together & end process on the following;
pcsvc.exe
dfezkx.exe

Then delete these files/folders manually;
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pcs-folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dfezkx.exe-file

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

O2 - BHO: twaintecObj Class - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - C:\WINDOWS\twaintec.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyKiller] C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe /startup
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msmc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\msgked.exe

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\Program Files\Common files\updater-folder
C:\Program Files\TV Media-folder
C:\Program Files\SpyKiller-folder

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msgked.exe-file

Reboot normally after doing the above then post a fresh log please.

Very good job :) . Just a little more & you should be good.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [alchem] C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe

In safe mode delete the following file;

C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe

Reboot normally, scan with HJT & if that alchem.exe entry is gone, you are good to go.

thank You!!!!!!!

You are welcome :) . Can I mark this as solved?
