Hi, All
I rarely use IE and in P2P softwares I use edonley2000. But somehow I got prosearching.com. It has caused me loads of trouble. It is deleting my email accounts from Mozilla mail. Constantly adding Casino and what not on my desktop. It is just causing havoc. I am using adaware and spybot but no use.
Please help me getting rid of this nasty thing. Here is my HijackThis log.

Thanks a bunch.

Good work here — ’s safe‑mode/HijackThis approach and ’s follow‑up removed the immediate symptoms. A few extra verification and recovery steps will close common gaps left after a toolbar/dialer removal and help restore any lost mail accounts.

First, verify the system is clean: run updated full scans with your antivirus and an up‑to‑date anti‑spyware tool; rerun HijackThis/Autoruns and look for any remaining unknown autostarts, BHOs or toolbars; inspect the Hosts file and Scheduled Tasks for unexpected entries; and use a process/handle viewer (Process Explorer) to check that browsers no longer load unknown DLLs. Remove any suspicious Run/RunOnce/autostart entries from Safe Mode only after backing up the registry.

If Mozilla mail accounts or messages disappeared, avoid creating a new profile yet. Back up the entire Mozilla profile folder, then look inside the profile for the Mail (or ImapMail) folders and mbox/.sbd files — message data is usually there even when account entries are removed. The prefs.js file contains the original account settings. If mail files are present, recreating the account or copying the mail folders into a fresh profile will restore messages; if not, try System Restore from a pre‑infection point (before making further changes).

Final precautions: change passwords for webmail and sensitive sites, remove unnecessary items from your Startup folder (Task Manager in Startup is harmless but unnecessary), keep Windows and security tools updated, prefer custom installs to avoid bundled toolbars, and avoid unknown P2P bundles. If anything reappears or you see odd network redirects, consider a deeper rootkit scan or a clean browser reinstall/new Windows user account.

i do not like that prosearching either! i right clicked it and got rid of it like that, then i went to my start, control panel and deleted from my add/delete programs. i hate them!

Hi. First of all you need to update hijackthis to version 1.98.2. Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. If the site is down, go Remove the old version by opening the program, going to config\misc tools, then uninstall & exit. You then have to delete the file manually. Unzip the new version into the hijackthis folder.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

Any reason why Task Manager has a shortcut in the startup folder?

Thanks, once again Crunchie,

I will fix it and report again.
I like to run task manager just to make myself aware of the processing power I am using. Is there anything bad in starting task manager from startup folder?
Does it cause any trouble?

Thanks

Shpusalk  :D

Hi,
As suggested I started in safe mode and deleted the the entry. Now IE is free of all sorts of hijacks and Mozilla is running smooth. Thanks a bunch for the help :cheesy:
Here is the newest log file.

Thanks, once again Crunchie,

I will fix it and report again.
I like to run task manager just to make myself aware of the processing power I am using. Is there anything bad in starting task manager from startup folder?
Does it cause any trouble?

Thanks

Shpusalk  :D

No trouble that I know of, just wondering why it was in there :).

Log looks good.

crunchie i saw how you worked a miracle for shpusalk and was wondering if you could help me get rid of bestsearch, here is my log

Dannyboi5704...you need to start your own thread with a descriptive title saying what you're having problems with, so that one of the experts that is familiar with your problem can get to you that much sooner. By tagging on to another member's post, it may delay them getting to you, and it gets confusing to focus on two problems in one thread. So start your own with your hijackthis log, and I'm sure Crunchie or one of the others will be with you soon!

ok thanks ill do that
im new at this

thanks again!

No problem....wish I knew more to take a look at your log, but I don't trust myself enough to help anyone else just yet. :) Good luck at getting it all worked out. :)
