I had this same problem: tried everything suggested, turned off active desktop, etc. Just before smashing my computer, I tried this and it worked: Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System -> Advanced Tab -> Performance Settings -> Visual Effects -> Click Adjust for Best Appearance. Cleared …
