It is not the actual scientists I question. I am not, unfortunately, qualified to helm a multi-Billion dollar Pharmeceutical conglomerate, nor am I in the position to lobby Senators\ Congressmen in their decisions regarding national healthcare concerns and where their financially-inspired votes will fall.

Besides this, I am quite happy with our system. I just see the need for vast improvements. There are scores (see, 100's of 1000's, if not more) of American people who go daily without their prescribed medicine, (the very medicine that just might cure their ills) because they cannot afford to pay for it and they do not have insurance. Medicine has become the new Mercedes, Nike, Apple-- designer quality at designer prices. Capitalism run amock. How inspiring.

I think this is a case of "gass is always greener on the other side of the fence".

>>do the Billions spent on medical research actually cure anything significant
Of couse it does. One example: I went through angioplaty (heart) surgery a year ago. This was first approved for use in USA in 1994. And there have been some improvements since then. Hospital stay is only overnight. There are medical breakthroughs all the time -- just because Christopher Reeve and Michael J. Fox have not been cured does not mean a cure will never come.

There are many breakthroughs that occur. I do not disagree with this. Lives are saved. But in the majority of cases, the symptoms are treated, not the root of the disease. This is Western medicine; Large companies do not make large profits from cures but from prolonged use of their products that simulate an awkward "improvement", that is, some symptoms digress while new conflicts grow from:

 1. Side Effects from new treatement\ medicine
 2. The weakening of the human system from the chemicals, err, "medicines" prescribed, hence, making the person(s) more sick in the long run

I am a huge supporter of science and research, but I will not sit here and say I am absolutely mad for the pathetic Health system of the U.S.

And sometimes, the grass is actually greener. Perhaps? :surprised

mattyd 89 Posting Maven Featured Poster

Some call the American medical system "Superior" and in some ways it is: Medicine, advanced treatments, research, labs, doctors, support staff, training levels, rehabilitation, ethics, and funding. While this is indeed true we have to look at what fails this system-- the businesses behind the hospitals that manage and control the dispensation of said elements of the American medical system.

I have always been treated well, fairly, honestly, and with seemingly the highest regards when being seen by a medical professional. Our nation possesses that, in general, on a personal basis, but what we lack is a true window into the machinations of the corporate system that buys and sells doctors and their hospitals like livestock. We have little if any say in this system and rarely true "choice" in light of absurd insurance restrictions. American citizens have become the true test subject(s) both fiscally and in the realms of science in this health system. And, honestly, do the Billions spent on medical research actually cure anything significant or does it only prolong a state of suffering in the long run? Look at the statistics, not the heart-warming propaganda produced by Pfizer or Forest Labs.

For many reasons (including Healthcare) I would prefer to live in the UK or Canada. I don't mind "waiting in line". ;)

Dust, ash, bearings and so on.
It's a mechanical problem. Remove the fan, get a can of compressed air (one of the ones with a tube to direct a narrow stream of air) and spray into the fan at an angle to get the fan spinning). See if you can pinpoint a part of the fand which is causing the problem, and concentrate the blasts of air there. Also have a look to check that the small circuit board on the fan's hub doesn't get in the way of the blades.
If you can't dislodge whatever particles are causing the friction, or if you can't find any (in which case it is probably the bearings) you'll need to buy a new fan.

Thank-you for your reply. I will follow your advice and let you know. :)

Hello:

Recently one of the fans in my laptop is "grinding" usually within one minute of booting. There are three fans: the grinding one (the largest), a smaller one next to it, and a tiny fan positioned next to a heatsink.

At first we thought it was the hard drive making this awful noise :surprised:twisted:, but removed the bottom plate and were relieved to find it was this fan.

It sounds like: something is loose and causing this problem, the fan has become inbalanced in its mechanism and will not operate correctly now, or perhaps something is lodged in it.

Dust, ash could not cause such a problem could it? I am a programmer and do not know much about hardware.

Thank-you for any help in advance.

I am not a fan of hot weather, but there are a few countries I would make an exception for, to hopefully visit some day: India, Israel, Egypt, Brazil\ Argentina, Spain.

I moved from Texas one-year ago (going to school there. I am originally from Ohio) to the East Coast. Summers are much better here in the NYC-area, milder. Living in Texas was like living in a bloody swamp-- not like a swamp, it actually was real, steamy swampland  . Never will I live in the South again, God-willing.

But, India: I absolutely love the food (my favorite, actually), I really like the music, and from what we hear of India in the States, a massive tech boom especially on the software front. :)

I Love Rain. I always have. I also adore snow. Cold and "dreary" weather like London in the Fall. Where I live we have been getting nice rain and cool, dark-cloud nights recently. Great sleeping weather. Great for sitting-at-the-computer-all-day weather (well, each day is like that but, LOL). Romantic weather.

Summer, honestly gets me down. Beaches, sports-- no. I would rather go to Germany, England, or Norway and be in the icy mountains or walk through the dirty streets. :cheesy:

I dream in color most of the time (well, at least sections of many dreams are higlighted fully in color. My girlfriend also dreams in color) There must be a valid reason why researchers say we "only" dream in black-and-white-- but, no, it not true en total. I do not think color dreaming -vs- black-and-white is significant either way one looks at it or "dreams" of it.

This morning (I only got about 2.5 hours sleep) I dreamt of coding. It went like this, panicked:

"Where is the '}', where is the closing '}'? Now, where is that 'if-- where is the damned 'if' !?."

Instead of on a comp screen, my compiler was displaying on a newspaper, and as I flipped each page I could view each cpp, header, etc. I never found the "}" or the damned "if".

Dreams seem to be about a few fundamental themes only:

 • Conflict resolution
 • Family heirarcheal issues
 • Sexual dynamics and status
 • Food; gluttony and\ or famine
 • Abstract imagery (filler material, essentially)
 • * A means for revelation from God

It goes without saying, dreaming, IMO, is simply the brains mechanism to process unresolved data. It is sort of a "defrag" for the mind: the ordering of the various, seemingly random pieces we absorb on a daily basis. It is quite amazing, that is, the Universe's most complex, organic computer (and ever-evolving!) :cheesy:

Are you sure you're ready for this? It's somewhat complicated ;)

First of all, your input must be in char* or string. Then you must check each character entered to see if it's the correct type of value -- like all digits for int. If there's a bad character, decide what you need to do -- convert what you can or call it an error and try again.

If all is well, convert the string and return the proper value.

I am working to add some simple user input checking into my program; there are three (3) int choices from a menu-- 1, 2, or 3. The user must choose one of these. I am able to check whether or not the input is 1, 2, or 3-- but I am not sure how to go about checking that the input is not possibly (accidently) a float or char. Any other input besides an int causes a failure and an infinite loop. I must prevent this.

I considered the idea of converting all input to int (from float or char) but I have had little sucess with my research with this so far, converting an input value to int from any possible other type (float, char, double, etc.)

Any advice, direction, or resources on this matter would be well appreciated. Thank-you in advance.

Yesterday came suddenly
Tomorrow will receive
Today now you're at the wheel
I'll ask how does it feel

Yesterday when Heaven's gates
I contemplate, they seem so far
Today they ain't so far away
And almost see my train

Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Keep what ya got, hold it, don't stop
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away

When your halo slips for good,
You'll have to wear your hood
Could you feel the breeze of fear
On all the cynics, I'm ya mimick
All you losers, all abusers
Wasting all my precious energy

Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away
Keep what ya got, hold it, don't stop
Keep what ya got, by giving it all away

Remember where you came from
Sisters who told ya on a rainy day
They said that Heaven holds a place
For all of those who pray
And if you don't believe in piety
Then you don't care anyway
Nobody or nothings ever getting in your way

Even as you pray to the lord
But don't feel you belong
No one's gonna notice if you never right no wrong
And if you and your next neighbour
Yeah, you don't quite get along
No one's gonna notice if you're singing …

But now I am trying to change the way I look at life, trying to be a better human..coz I have learnt that life always sucks, its your responsibility to make it worthwhile and enjoy your living.

Hello:

Well, "Looks like you are absolute death metal, grindcore fan..."--no, actually not at all. I like this one death metal band(Bolt Thrower), but really my fave (and really only) metal is Iron Maiden. I like Rammstein a lot, and heavyrock like Coheed Cambria, Led Zeppelin and Queen, but usually I listen to stuff like: Mozart, Ian Brown, The Petshop Boys, Tom Waits, The Pogues (Irish), Prince, 80's music\pop... The list goes on and on.

I changed (trying to change the way) I look at life, also: I am a pessimest (usually) but, with God and my religion, I have discovered a much-ignored fountain to drink from which not only betters my life but I hope betters the lives (the world) of those around me.

Sure, but to expect to magically find that "one" by visiting a website....

Mathematically you are correct, but: I met my girlfiend on a dating site; we lived 2,000+- miles apart at the time (I in Texas, she in NYC). Upon graduating from school I moved to NYC so 1) I could begin my career 2) We could be together. That was one-year ago. What we have is splendid, lovely, and because it is ordained by God-- what can I say? Blessed. Am I lucky? No-- I do not believe in luck. It is actually quite a living miracle that grows day-by-day. It takes work and it is quite fun, intellectually stimulating, and spiritually fired-up. Now, if I could only get my career going as good as my relationship ;).

Cenotaph by Bolt Thrower

Definition of "Cenotaph" from Wikipedia

The Cenotaph, London

A cenotaph is a tomb or a monument erected in honour of a person or group of persons whose remains are elsewhere. It can also be the initial tomb for a person that has since been interred elsewhere. The word derives from the Greek words kenos, one meaning being "empty" and taphos, "tomb". Although the vast majority of cenotaphs are erected in honour of specific individuals, many of the best-known cenotaphs are instead dedicated to the memories of groups of individuals, such as the war dead of one specific country or empire.

If you need some company to arrange a mate for your and a book or website to tell you how to "snatch them up", maybe you should better stay single.

Well, personally, I can say I never needed "help" and I never aimed to "snatch them up". There are many routes and options especially nowadays including, you are correct, staying single. It just stands to reason that as our society grows and technology evolves these options will grow as well. How one finds "the one" (if that is what you wish) and how one accoplishes this (in a reasonable manner) is a personal endeavor and preference. ;)

Here are five important tips to achieve a successful date I would like to share:

Pointer #1 - Avoid dating occasionally.

This result to what we call "dating fatigue". Dating is an continuous activity (until you find that perfect match) and so recharging your energies, building self-confidence and maintaining optimism levels high must be practiced. I advise that you schedule your date in time frames to regain your renewed vigor if necessary.

Pointer #2 - ENJOY your date as much as possible

Always strive to enjoy dating activities even if it shows signs of not being compatible with your date. Remember, this is one aspect of socializing and grab the opportunity by spending time in the company of new acquaintances who may or may not bring you a sparkle. The truth is, most people are interesting in a way and this may be the chance to look for new friends!

Pointer #3 - Never divulge your entire being on a first date.

Basically, we tend to be more interested with individuals who are mysterious and the thrill of the chase when dating. Therefore, if you are looking for a more serious relationship, sex is out of the agenda in a first date. As your date progress and the person starts to fall for you within a reasonable time, then there is a higher percentage that real love may bloom.

Pointer #4 - Do join a quality …

Upon fixing the previous error that we discussed, another bug has appeared that I find very odd: It seems that when I run the program at first and enter a choice via the user interface (in this case "1" as it's the only valid choice at this point besides "2" which is simply used to exit) it takes the input and loops directly back to the interface requesting user input again; after entering "1" a second time it finally runs as it should looking at ship position (shipPos). Again, At this point it requires me to enter user input twice to run the initial shipPos. I have been debugging and stepping-through the entire thing but have yet to find this bug.

Azazel is beside you and he's playing a game.
Demons are inside you and they're making a prayer.
Watching-- are they hiding-- as they wait for the time,
For the Devil to get ready to take over your mind.

You and only God will know--
What can be done?
You and only God will know--
I am the only one.
You and only God will know--
I am the chosen one.

Chorus

Could it be it's the end of the (our) world?
All the things that we cherish and love?
Nothing left but to face this all of my own,
'Cause I am the chosen one.

Beaten Fallen Angel--
But I've risen again!
And the power is inside me
I've decided to pray.
As I wait for Armageddon
And it's coming my way.

Collecting pieces of my family
In an old pillow case
This one has a skull

But it don't have a face
These look like the arms of father so strong
And the ring on this finger

Means my Grandma is gone
Here's some legs in a cloud
Where my sister once played

Here's some mud made of blood
And these teeth are decayed
The ear of my brother

The hand of a friend
And I just can't
Put them back together again

Pick up the bones
And set them on fire
Follow the smoke going higher and higher
Pick up the bones
And wish them goodnight
Pray them a prayer and turn out the light

There are stains on the floor
Where kitchen once stood
There are ribs on the fire place
Mixed with the wood

There are forces in the air
Ghosts in the wind
Some bullets in the back
And some scars on the skin

There were demons with guns
Who marched through this place
Killing everything that breathed
They're an inhuman race

There are holes in the walls
Bloody hair on the bricks
And the smell of this hell
Is making me sick

Pick up the bones
And set them on fire
Follow the smoke going higher and higher
Pick up the bones
And wish them goodnight
Pray them a prayer and turn out the light

Pick up the bones
And set them on fire
Follow the scope going higher …
