I have seen many sites that are not what you might call validated. While it is a good idea it should not have any impact if you have only minor errors. The search engines a very good at figuring these things out.
I believe that they are so important that we always recommend that the client get a new domain with the primary keyword phrase in the url. Then redirect the old url,s to the new domain.
