I tried that, but maybe it was my fault for not installing correctly, because the Gnome taskbar remained with the KDE taskbar. I didn't really like that.

Actually, here's what I did. I first backed up my data, then I deleted both partitions.

Then I installed Kubuntu with manual partition with the following partitions:

10GB - swap area; primary
10GB - ext4 journaling; mount point: /; primary
600 GB - ext4 journaling; mount pont /home; logical
20GB - unallocated.

Then I rebooted and started Ubuntu install with the following:

10GB - swap area, logical (primary wouldn't work, for some reason)
10GB - ext4 journaling; mount point: /; primary

select the 600 GB allocated for Kubuntu home and click "change"
select ext4 journaled, NOT "do not use this partition"
select mount point as /home.

Install. Reboot. Gloat.

On my computer, I have Ubuntu 11.1 and Kubuntu 11.1 installed as dual-boot. When I started, I specified completely separate partitions for both of them, but I now realize I want them to share the same home folder, i.e. the same desktop (I keep everything on my desktop). Any way to do that now, such as any software or any sort of reinstall? (P.S. - My Ubuntu partition is completely set up but I will be fine deleting and reinstalling Kubuntu).

Actually, I'have been busy with the side and I figured out why this was happening - the positioning of the two divs. If they are relative, then the menue moves the rest of the stuff. If they are absolutely positioned, it's all well and good.

Thanks for the help though.

Y'know, after 50 years of computers, we still are not sure of its inner workings, even though we designed them. Which makes me think, your idea has as much credence as any scientific idea. Happy New Years to you and anyone who sees this today!

The problem's fixed now. Not really sure how, but suddenly, the loading was really fast.

Thanks! That helped.

I'm wondering, is there any way to create a tooltip so that the hovering information always appears in a specific region for all links. I have a vertical navigation menu and I want link information to appear beneath the entire menu.

I am using IE9, but most users with IE will be using version 8

asuprem 0 Newbie Poster

please use html code <center> or CSS margin:auto; to centerize the divs.

All the divs are centered. Here is my problem:

1. On firefox and chrome, divs are centered, but NOT on IE
2. the div with width 990px appears the same length as the divs with width 1000px on firefox and chrome, but NOT on IE.

What can I add to my div codes to center in IE?

What is up with the differing length appearances?

asuprem 0 Newbie Poster

The website I am designing is made up of several div tags. All but one are at width of 1000 pixels. The odd one out has a width of 990 pixels. All divs are centered.

On firefox and chrome, the divs show up centered and the 990 px width div looks the same width as the 100px divs. But on IE, the 990px div shows up as exactly 990px, i.e. the other dis look longer that said div.

What's going on?

I don't know if I can post the code (work policies).

Thanks.

The CSS Menu I have moves the contents of the div tag below it sideways.

I am posting only the CSS styles for it because the code inside the <body> tag utilizes only the styles.

The menu div tag is the id #navMenu. The content is in three div tags (#sideMenu, #midText, #rightMenu), all of which are inside the #MainText div.

Any suggestions? I tried messing with the s-index but to no avail.

it may not even be a corrupt registry , start with memtest86 to
check you ram .download the ISO file for windows and using isoburn or win7 iso burning tool , burn to disk to make a bootable dist to run the ram check .go to the free download link and get the latest version
http://www.memtest86.com/

then go to your harddrive makers website and get there utility for checking the harddrive for errors/damage

Thanks, I'll try it.

I wish I could :(

My last restore was from a while ago, and my laptop automatically deletes restores more than 30 days old.

I've seen this behaviour if almost one of the registry files has gone over a "defective" track in the disk, or, if you have a RAID disk (2, 5, or whatelse) one of the disk is failing an gets a lot of time to sync with the other(s).

I would suggest to do a full backup into an external disc, and then, run a CHKDSK with the /B switch (that will reevaluate the disk for bad clusters, bad sectors (and recover any readable info), and fix any common error in files or directories)

If any bad sector or cluster is found, you should replace the disk a.s.a.p.

Hope this helps

I have already done chkdsk twice (previously) and no errors or bad sectors. I think it might be a registry error, beause that is the only option I have not yet explored. Do you know any place where I can download the default system registry for win7 so I can replace my registry?

Thanks for your help!

P.S. I have a SATA drive.

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium OS on a brand new ASUS (the G74Sx - Gaming series). For the first two months, the login was pretty much instantaneous.

Recently, It has become very erratic. When I turn it on, the login screen loads fairly quickly (10s). After I type in my password, it waits about 25s, then goes to welcome screen. After that, it waits 5 or so minutes. The a black screen for about 15 minutes. Finally, it will show the desktop with icons and everything. Once it is at the desktop, it may take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to fully load. If I click during this time, the system shows a window: Microsoft Windows - The application isn't responding.

If I wait, it will finally, completely load, and everything is smooth sailing from there.

Before you ask, yes, I have:

1. checked on Google
2. restored
3. repaired
4. defragmented
5. rollbacked updates
6. reinstalled updates

I don't want to to a complete wipe and reinstall because I have about 350 GB of software and reinstalling that it a pain. Anyone have any idea what is wrong?

Thanks WaltP. It worked!

I am wondering, will that work, since the numbers are on the same line.

Also, by extension, can I use the same technique in fscanf, because I've herad it reads only line by line.

BTW, I am going to try it.

I implemented your suggestion. This time, I can enter my data. However, it still skips to the end. Is there something wrong with the following code?

if (string[counter] != " ")
        {
           temp[tempcount] = string[counter];
           tempcount++;
        }

Here is the rest of it:

#include <stdio.h>

int main()
{
    int num;
    int i;

    char string[256];

    printf ("How many different numbers?:  ");
    scanf("%i", &num);
    getchar();
    printf( "Enter numbers: " );

    fgets ( string, 256, stdin );

    int counter = 0;
    char temp[256];
    int tempcount = 0;
    for (counter = 0;counter<256;counter++)
    {
        if (string[counter] != " ")
        {
           temp[tempcount] = string[counter];
           tempcount++;
        }
        else
        {
            printf("Here is the string, %s\n", temp);
            free(temp);
            tempcount = 0;
        }
   }

    system("PAUSE");
    return 0;
}

This is for an extra credit assignment for class. Requirements I am having trouble with:

1. User enters number specifying numbers of integers
2. User enters integers
3. program will read them and parse.

----------------------------------------------------------
Here is a sample input and what the program should do:

How many numbers: 5
Enter numbers: 4 66 56 3 2

Here are the numbers:

4
66
56
3
2
----------------------------------------------------------

This program is for storing 2D matrices.

Here is what I have, but I can't get it to store my string of numbers. Without the part where I enter "how many numbers" and the for loop, it works (i.e. it gets the string). With the two additions, it skips to the end after I enter the number of numbers:

#include <stdio.h>

int main()
{
    int num;
    int i;

    char string[256];

    printf ("How many different numbers?:  ");
    scanf("%i", &num);

    printf( "Please enter a long string: " );

    fgets ( string, 256, stdin );
    for ( i = 0; i < 256; i++ )
{
    if ( string[i] == '\n' )
    {
        string[i] = '\0';
        break;
    }
}

    int counter = 0;
    char temp[256];
    int tempcount = 0;
    for (counter = 0;counter<256;counter++)
    {
        if (string[counter] != " ")
        {
           temp[tempcount] = string[counter];
           tempcount++;
        }

        else
        {
            printf("Here is the string, %s\n", temp);
            free(temp);
            tempcount = 0;

        }

    }

    return 0;
}
