A friend of mine wrote me a great dialer routine in VB-5. It works with mscomm32.ocx perfectly on my Win98 and XP but I cannot get it to work on my Win95. The error code is 8018 unable to dial on any commport. Operation valid only when the port is open. My 95 modem is on comm4, and I think my 98 is too. In any case, my friend designed the program to check all available ports, so this should not be the problem. He thinks that either VB-5 is not compatible with Win95 or that the 95 needs a different mscomm32.ocx. I have tried 3 mscomm32.ocx downloads so far, but no luck. Could someone skilled in VB programming please shed some light on why the dialer will not work in Windows95 and maybe come up with a possible solution? (Other than upgrade to Win98 or XP, lol.)
