I would take a look at adding some features to argoUML (refer to http://argouml.tigris.org/issues/reports.cgi?state=Open+issues&issue_type=ENHANCEMENT&containing=&type=case-insensitive+substring&x=Subcomponent&y=Priority ). This way you get to work on a Java project, contribute to the OSS community (which you can then put on a resume), and also use as a platform for improving your general software engineering and UML skills.
