could be the derivative a function named u. depends on context. if it is calculus, it most likely is the derivative of u.

Set (u',v') to (1,0) and (u,v) to (0,1); (m',n') to (m,n)

Looks like a suffix to indicate multiple values for something
basic values are m and n, second values are m1, n1 (etc) - like an array with the little 1 as the array index.
