PHP Database, searching script & Dispalying

Hi there.
Thinking about creating a membership registration-enabled website, that will store people names and some info about them, after they register, but what i can't begin to make is a PHP code that whenever, a user searchs ( In a search box ) a name of another user, that is stored in DB, i want the code ( which i can't create ) to bring out the data from the SQL Table, and display it. Also, since there will be many name to display, if you can help me give me a hint on how to make... like Ex: [ Pages- 1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8 ... ] / So, when they press those pages, they can be forwarded....

Not necessary, the second script, the first will do just fine if you can tell me.

Just try replacing the query to search query

select * from table where username like '%$query'
