What are the requirements to take the CCNA test? I've purchased the book and I'll be spending a large majority of my time studying independently. I'm wondering though, is taking a CCNA course a prerequisite to taking the test or is it just recommended? Thanks!

Hello group, I've decided I want to take some classes in SQL, to better understand how to write queries. In looking online for where to turn to for this kind of training, I also see classes to prep for certification. I'm curious of what the value to my employer would be if I had that kind of certification (specifically Oracle/SQL 11g)? Is the expense for this certification worth it to my employer? Is there additional training in that prep that would benefit me and/or my employer? If you have some thoughts, feel free to post. If you prefer, you can …

Hi All, I met with some people from a private firm that has been hired to automate some data flows from PDF files to Excel and then to SharePoint. I wrote some VBA code for them to brute-force-test and they were impressed with what I had accomplished. The one fellow, who I believe is the project lead, asked me if I had my MOS Certification and I said no. Now I'm wondering if that is something that I should be aspiring to obtain? I don't know much about the MOS certification and am wondering if there are any certified people …

w3schools offers certification in various web development languages at $95 a pop. I'm wondering whether it's a good investment, and it largely depends on how recognized and respected w3schools certificates are. If anyone knows of good alternatives for certification in the Toronto, Canada area that don't require prior attendance at a formal educational institution, please let me know. Google isn't very helpful--it just gives me a list of expensive private colleges I can attend in person for 12 months at a time. Eyetee

I want to also get certified with Microsoft, it seems a lot of companies are asking for this now. If you have gone through the certification proces, I would appreciate some tips.. about where, how and what to study. Thanks Sam

I have written before about child geeks, such as M. Lavinashree from Pakistan who passed her Microsoft Certified Professional exam at the age nine. At the time of writing she was busy studying for the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer exams. However, I think I may have stumbled on an even bigger, or should that be smaller, child ubergeek. Marko Calasan, from Macedonia, is also just nine years old and also pretty keen on Microsoft certifications. So keen, in fact, that he already has four of the things! According to an interview published at Network World young Marko is studying for …

It's here! No, not winter, the 2006 Certification Magazine results are in. Last year I wrote a similar article regarding these results, and the top spots were all 'System Administration' certifications. This year it is quite a bit different, the sought after CCIE has actually fallen from the top 5, to number 6 on the list of 'Top Certifications'. One of the things that Certification Magazine chose to make prominent this year, is the number of people who did not receive any certifications during the last year. While over 80% of people who participated in this survey, stated they would …
