I could easily buy a liquid cooler and call it a day, but unfortunately this is going into a 4U rack server chassis. it has a double 120mm fan but its covered by drive bays. the only other fan is 80mm, and i dont know any liquid coolers with a radiator that small. I am thinking air cooler. It is a i7-7800X so im concerned about temps. Ideas for cooling?

I just got an i7 8700k from hardware swap and the 3rd core is running way hotter than the rest. Its sitting at 68 degress celsius, while the rest are in the 30s. I've reapplied the thermal paste and it didn't change.

Hello, I was playing a game on my PC (NFS Most wanted) when I heard a fan starting up noisily. All of a sudden the system tripped off. When I tried restarting it, only the light on the CD-ROM was blinking, even the power button light did not light up. The CD-ROM opens and closes when I press the CD-ROM button but the system does not come on and the monitor remains black. Please help! I use an Acer desktop computer (don't know the model) Thanks.

Hi, I'm going to see one of our sites tomorrow and been asked to look at a PC that isn't working. I dont have long there so wondered if anyone had any tips for what i should try to do/test when I do get there. I even sent them a new monitor with computer built in but aparently the same thing is happening on that PC. The problem has been described to me as... 'Just connected it all up and its still not working, it keeps saying monitor going to sleep, on the set up menu it just says no …

Hello, Am currently facing a problem with my home PC, whereby upon switching on, all the lights switch on normally (HDD, DVD-drives, PSU), then just seconds later, it switches off by itself, and again some seconds later, starts to switch on by itself, but again goes off (in a loop). No beep sound whatsoever. Any one can help troubleshoot this issue? Thanks.

So I was installing a new SSD in my PC. After doing so, the PC made continuous beeping sound. Then I researched about the problem and came to know that continuous beep is due to CPU. Then I removed the CPU fan, cleaned up the thermal paste, then put the fan back.(NOTE- No thermal paste was on the CPU, I just thought of putting it later i.e after checking if my SSD is working properly). But this time, the PC did not make any noise, there was only flickering of lights and when I connect a USB light, even that flickered. …

Hello, I have had this PC I built myself for almost a year now (probably a little more than a year, I lost count. Lol). LITERALLY this morning I was on it messing around with a friend, then just a moment ago I tried installing a some case LED lights. I turned off the PC via the switch on the power supply before doing so just to be safe. After following the instructions carefully, I turned the PC back on to test the lights, then the front fan's light and power light started blinking. The fans came on each time …

Ok folks, I rarely log in to ask questions so forgive me if I'm in the wrong category. Ok, the pc is a laptop (HP Elitebook 8460p, i5-2520m CPU 2.50GHz, 4GB RAM, Crucial 240GB SSD) running Win 7 Pro 64. Now I've scoured the net and can't find a single post with my unique problem. My laptop seems to work great in every way untill I start using it on battery power. The bat charges fine and holds a good charge. It'll runn for hours on that charge too so I don't see that as a sourse of the isue. …

Hi all, As the subject line (plea for help!) says, my brand new Corsair RM550x power supply will not power up when there are any peripherals connected to it. Not even just one! However, when it is connected to just the ATX and CPU on the motherboard, I get a blue power light and the fans all start spinning. As soon as I connect even one peripheral, no matter which one, it will not power up. This is for an HTPC, so I can't imagine 550W is not enough for three hard drives, a blu-ray player, and a sata controller. …

Hey there! I have a problem with my computer. When I start my pc, it loads fine, I can go to the BIOS, it passes the POST successfully and so on. I can run the Hiren's Boot CD with no problem and it doesn't lose signal or shuts down, but if I boot into the Windows, the monitor loses signal right after it starts loading, but the CPU Fan and the case fan continues to work. Same happened when I try to boot from a USB device or DVD, so I can't format it, but I had the possibility to …

I just bought the ASUS X99-PRO / USB 3.1 motherboard. I put it into a Corsair 800D case, that has 7 fans. I need to split the fan connectors to handle 2 fans each, and the top 3 fans all together from 1 fan connector. How much power in watts is provided by the fan connectors on the motherboard? Note: The book explains that the CPU fan connector provides 12 watts at 12 volts, and makes no mention of the power output of the chassis fan connectors.

Im trying to figure this out. Pls help give more direction. I have a voltage detector and a micro detector. Once abou 6 mo ago, I was out during a rain storm to return and have difficulty turning it on. Since then PC would work fine, but once in a while wont turn on. The latest time a week ago, I dismantled the on/off button in an effort to close circuit the two wires, in case the problem is in the on/off button. no luck.( Sometimes tapping the side of the PC turns it on after I push on/off.) Yesterday, as I was working on my computer, it died. Just as though someone had unplugged it. I knew I had a short, so I tried a new power supply cable. When I got the new one in, I hit the power button and the power supply unit popped and started smoking. I now know the short was in the unit itself. So I picked up a new power supply unit and installed it. The problem now is that I have power to my computer, but nothing works. For example. The power supply unit fan runs and the processor fan …

Today we look at an often forgotten and overlooked component of the PC ecosystem, the Uninterruptable Power System (UPS). In general UPS’s do not tend to get a lot of attention, they are not sexy gadgets, have limited activity and much like insurance. No one really cares about it until they need it. I recently received an Eaton 5130 1500VA UPS unit for review and that is what we will be looking at today. Eaton is a large player in the UPS market and offers units ranging from desk-side UPS’s all the way up to custom designed datacenter solutions. Eaton’s …

I'm looking at some towers on newegg and I'm trying to pick one out. I'm open to a full tower but I'd like to know if I can get away with a smaller case, mainly because of the price. I'd like to build a media server so the first priority is to have enough space and sata ports for multiple hard drives. One question in particular that I have about this is if there is a small case I could wrap around a larger HD to allow it to slide into a 5.25 external bay?
