News Story Happy 10th birthday, MP3 players
Do you remember the MPMan F10 which was launched way back in March 1998? Probably not, which is a shame as it was a hugely important, and rather huge, device in the overall scheme of things. The first MP3 player, 10 years old this month, is fondly remembered in detail here.

As I said before, I'm a huge gadget girl. I had the opportunity earlier this month to test out the very cool Jawbone bluetooth headset for my Treo 755p. I have to say that I'm very picky about my headsets and like making the right investment for something that may stay on my head for a long time, especially if I'm driving (since by law out here, you have to use a hands-free device on the road). So after trying a number of devices, the Jawbone came into my hands, and I can't say I'm disappointed at all. Here's the …

News Story MacBook Pros... Wherefore Art Thou?
So, MacWorld finally came and went. For months, I've anticipated this event. After Apple released Leopard in November, I had my eyes set on moving over to the Mac world. But without any guarantees that Apple would preinstall Leopard on existing laptops in their inventory and after hearing about numerous applications that weren't Leopard compatible, I told myself that I'd wait a little longer. And after today, I'm waiting even longer. The Macbook Air, an excellent addition to the Apple Macbook family, looks hot. Integrating iPhone/iPod Touch technology into the touchpad is just awesome. But did Apple forget about its …

News Story Wife Swapping Geeks
They say it is a ‘man thing’ this fantasy about swapping their wife or partner for someone new. Unfunny jokes about trading up to a newer model abound, some even indulge in a swinging lifestyle. But now it seems that some 13% of men in the UK, according to new research conducted by pollsters GfK NOP, would gladly swap their other half for the latest gadget. Personally I do not find this a surprising statistic, given the poor state of many relationships and the huge attraction of gadgets such as the iPhone or PS3. Oh, and the fact that so …

News Story The Zune is too soon
Microsoft just released their iPod killer -- except that it isn't killing the iPod. Although it looks promising, it has had a number of negative Zune reviews. It may seem like the Zune is a total flop, after all, "it's from MS". But no, I don't think that is the problem. The problem is testing. Beta testing. Zune has so many features to kill the iPod with, but all these features came at a price to Microsoft. Obviously, they are going to have to do a lot of bug fixing. So instead of making a product that may not have …

Microsoft's patch-the-patch policy and practice has just rubbed a hole in their own breeches that they need to patch! First, the snafu over WGA (which supposedly just wants to make sure you have a legitimate copy of Windows before you are allowed to update or get other cool stuff for the OS). Now there is this thing with one of the recent patches that some know-it-all says can "put the nation's critical infrastructure at risk". What? Critical Infrastructure? Risk? Nation, for crying out loud? I guess we're now saying Microsoft is going to bring the country to its knees. I …
