My screenshot software seems to be having problems, so I'll have to just describe it. So I gave James +rep here in this thread. https://www.daniweb.com/programming/threads/507505/java-is-strictly-pass-by-value It shows up in the main Activity Stream that I did it (time 9:50 Pacific - five minutes ago). But it doesn't show up on the post (shows as 0, not 1, and I don't see my comment in yellow), nor do I see it in James' profile. I can change it from 0 to 1 (sometimes), but always with a delay and it seems like it's making a quick bounce to 1, then immediately …

Why is it necessary to remove reputation points from members?

Not that it is probably of the utmost importance, but I was wondering why ~s.o.s~ has 74 reputation points in the overview lists. and only 63 in the icon list on the Software Development forum.

We have three types of popular brands: Service brand; Retail brand; Product brand. All of these need the active marketing support to get popularity among the target community. We need a different in promotional strategy for each brand reputation buildup. For service brand reputation, we need to approach the end users with focus upon internet marketing. For retail brand reputation, the role of seller becomes important. For product brands, we need viral marketing strategy that could involves all the channel partners.

Hi All, I have been wondering about several ways to quickly gain reputation points. I tried commenting and giving an "Up" to some of the posts, also tried paying forward my endorsements points to many people but somehow (don't know the reasons), my 8 reputation points became -2. Also, I got "OP-Kudos" before this post but now I am not getting that one too. Please suggest me how can I overcome this one. Thanks a lot in advance :)

I have been around not very long. I learn pretty much every thing i know about programing form the web and sites like daniweb helped a lot. comparing a site like daniweb and an other popular site stack overflow ... I will pick daniweb any day. for two main reason. 1. Daniweb is newbies friendly. that is to say, you can ask all the stupide question and get someone help you arrive at the right question and the right answer. 2. The people at Daniweb are welcoming and ready to help at any time. althought it takes some time to …

Hi All. I just want to ask how are reputation points acquired or given? Is it automatic? or is it given by fellow community members? I just can't figure it out. Thank you. :)

I'm not sure if I'm the only 1, but since the new site has been up, which looks great just took a while to get used to, reputation has not gone up (it has a little but not what it used to be). By this I mean, great users that I knew (reframed from mentioning names) would increase rep, more then I change underwear. Although I wasnt really one of them my rep would substantially increase, but since the new site, and the new upvoting system, where you have to hover over the 'Upward arrow' and then move your cursor …

I think that there are alot of members on this forum that receive quite a bit of their posts voted for, but receive no postive or negative reputation points. I would tend to think that the majority of the time, the members that are doing the voting are not aware of the fact that... > If you just click the arrow, you are voting without reputation. However, If you hover over the arrow, and type a comment, you are voting with reputation. Wouldn't it make the system eaiser to use if just by voting you are also giving the member …

Hey all, I must say its taken me a while to get hang of the new sites layout and all but im finally getting there. one thing i cant seem to get is the 'up voting' system.... in the old site you were able to either up vote a post or down vote a post, and also you were able to give or take reputation points for a post. What has happened to this? because if i press vote and comment and/or i up vote or down vote a post i cant seem to see any rep being added/taken. only …

I happen to read through some good posts by someone, and just as being appreciative, i pressed on Up-Arrow (positive arrow). For some time like 1 or 2, it worked fine, but later As soon as i pressed it, both arrows disappeared. It happened like 2 or 3 times with the same person (He is a mod). I don't think its a vote limiter in Daniweb, if it were, it would have been just limited to reps, there would not have been any problem in up-voting alone, right? So what is causing this?

OK, we know if we pull out the ranking list, we can see the one with the maximum post, reps or solved threads etc. But this is not about that, its about the people's choice, so who do you think is the best among the big boys here. (Multiple entries for different forums, not a problem, Include forum name too).

Is there any way to respond to reputation comments as I feel it a little unfair that if someone writes a comment about a post I have made that I feel is unjustified that I can't respond to it (unless I am missing something)? Or even a way to dispute a negative mark and comment?

Noticed just that my positive rep power shooted to 13 or is there bug in the system? Maybe some announcement message of these kind of changes explaining the reason would be nice feedback? Also I noticed 'undo the vote for this post' option for post I upvoted and I have not noticed before. Is it new?

What's up? We've been having a big problem with Russian spammer for the last few days. You may have seen some posts they made with mainly porn and/or drug-links in them. We're currently struggling to keep up with the enormous amount of spam being posted, so I thought I'd ask our good members of the community to help out. What to do? When you see a post containing this Russian spam (or any spam for that matter), click the "flag bad post" button next to it and type something creative. Reward? I'll be honest: you're not getting any money for …

I have couple of posts which seems to get positive feedback from the helped member, but the reputation is even, not positive. Somebody immediately down voting the rep given to me or what is happening? Here two still visible cases: This has only 1 rep: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/post1270304.html#post1270304 This has reputation comments 2 showing, but only one empty rep: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/post1267268.html#post1267268

Personally I prefer the Reputation as a measure of one's helpfulness/popularity on DaniWeb, and truthfully I haven't paid much attention since the introduction of the Up/Down Voting system. But lately one thing is starting to bug me about it - if someone up/down votes a post, it is completely anonimous and no reason need be given. I would prefer someone tell me why they like/dislike one of my posts so that I can either debate their response or learn from their point of view. Honestly, can anyone put forward a reason as to why such a "feature" was implemented when …

Would you downvote someone for no reason if you lost a bit of your own rep doing it? Probably not. This would keep you only downvoting posts you really think deserve it, and help prevent downvote abuse. What are you thoughts?

In todays age, it is important to monitor your reputation. I personally do it be running Google Alerts and searching on my name on google and various search engines. What about you? How do you monitor your online reputation?

Is is possible for you to reduce the amount of negative rep I can give from 30 to something more reasonable, say 10? I'd like to occasionally give negative rep but I don't want to completely destroy the member. Maybe there should be a maximum negative rep that can be given.

In this digital age where tweeting and updating your Facebook page is such a common place behavior, one major concern for me is online reputation management. The information you put online can come back and bite you. Most people may not realize this. HR folks facebook potential employees and now that social media communities have integration partnership with major search engines, this issue becomes more threatening. Imagine - you just had a job interview and tweet about how "great" your interview went and hope never to see them again. Imagine if the HR or even the person you interviewed with …
