I have recently come into possession of 2 second hand Fujitsu RX series servers, and this issue is driving me nuts!

When I got them neither had disks, so I popped some disks in and installed a Win Server 2019 hyper-v service. So both servers have entirely clean and activated installations of Server 2019.

Every day without fail both servers reboot at exactly 11pm, which is causing havoc with the VMs.

What I have done:

  1. Disabled "Allow remote server management through WinRM"
  2. Disabled "Configure automatic updates"
  3. Disabled "Enable automatic MDM enrollment using default Azure AD credentials"
  4. Enabled "Disable MDM Enrollment"
  5. Enabled "No auto0restart with logged on users for scheduled automated updates installations"
  6. Disabled all scheduled tasks.

I am starting to think these servers are enrolled in some kind of RMM/intune system, and they are being rebooted remotely. Is that possible? How could I check this?

Next I plan to disconnect both servers from the network at 10.55pm and observe if they still reboot at 11pm.

Does anyone have any suggestions before I cut my losses and abandon windows hyper v and go with a ubuntu hypervisor?

Edit: Ouch, having just posted this I see the Daniweb community is non-existent now, perhaps I shall ask around else where! Daniweb what happened to you? This was once a thriving forum! :(

Aha! I cracked it. My goodness this has been driving me mad for two weeks.

Turns out previous owners had a power on schedule configured, and the management controller retained the old config even though I put a fresh OS on it. Doh!

Live and learn.

Been coming on daniweb for 20 years, was always such a great place for help and advice. Last time I visited was 4-5 years ago and I noticed then it was getting quieter. Somewhat sorry to see the state of things now, these "most recent" threads are all so old! Where is everyone? I shall try stop by here more often and contribute!

commented: Good find. That Intel system is besides the OS. Think of it as another computer in the computer. +17

Where is everyone?

Most of the posts here seem to be the same words about SEO/digital marketing over and over. That doesn't attract too many eyeballs. There is very little programming content any more.

You are very much appreciated. Thank you for your devotion to our community over all the years! Unfortunately, I started dealing with some health issues that left me bedbound in 2020 and 2021. By 2023, I had been diagnosed with a form of terminal cancer among other things. It’s been really hard, but I’m doing my best to keep the website up. In other news, the reason for the increase in SEO content is because that’s my personal passion, and DaniWeb’s reputation in the SEO space (I’ve been speaking at SEO conferences for 20 years) has transcended its reputation in the programming space (where people abandoned us for sites like Stack Overflow).

But there are still a few dinosaurs around who can answer some programming questions.

Then there’s me, whose expertise is mostly limited to technical SEO and PHP these days, I’m afraid. Ugh, the brain fog is real.

Not to knock ya, but I think another part of the problem is that all that's left are dinosaurs who aren't necessarily skilled at the most trendiest things these days. There's only so much people can reminisce in a forum about punchcards.
