News Story Apple iPad Mini versus Amazon Kindle Fire
A week may be a long time in politics, but 18 months is an absolute aeon as far as computing is concerned. Back in October 2010 here at DaniWeb I was posing the question of whether the newest [Amazon Kindle could be an iPad killer](http://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/tablets-and-mobile-devices/reviews/315078/amazon-kindle-3-better-than-the-ipad) and came to the almost inevitable conclusion that as far as reading books was concerned, then yes it was. Soon that boot could be on the other foot with ongoing rumours that an iPad Mini will be on sale in time for the seasonal rush at year end, backed up by what are claimed to …

I first started writing about the 'coming soon' Xbox 720 way back in 2008 if my memory serves me well. Every now and then another rumour emerges, supposedly from 'a reliable source within Microsoft' and confirming that the release date has been fixed or announcing the final hardware specification for the latest next-gen-next-gen games console. So far, all of those dates have passed and none of those hardware details have proved to be anything other then specification speculation syndrome. ![dweb-720](/attachments/small/0/dweb-720.jpg "align-right") So why should this story be any different? Good question, and one that I have to admit I cannot …

All the news and social media feeds seem to have overdosed on one story this week: will The Beatles be on iTunes after the big Apple 'Rock and Roll' event today? News at eleven: I don't give a stuff, and here's my top ten reasons why.

Most people would rather have an iPod with a camera than an iPod with The Beatles.
Reality check: the only people who are really getting their knickers in a knot over the possibility of Beatles music on iTunes, unfortunately, would be we the media.
The Beatles are not, and I'm really sorry to …

With the release of iOS 5 to developers, Apple has signalled the arrival of the much awaited iPhone 5. But when can we expect to see it, and how will it be different to the iPhone? As usual, the Apple rumor mill has been churning out specs for many months now but some seem much more likely than others so DaniWeb has attempted to separate the wheat from the chaff to bring you what we think is the most probable list of iPhone 5 specs. Apple has already informed the world, well the world of app developers to whom …

News Story Is this the new iPod Touch 4?
Unless you have been living in a cave you cannot have failed to spot that the iPhone 4 is with us, 'don't hold it like that' antenna problems and all. But what about the iPod Touch 4? Traditionally, the new iPod is launched in September and the new feature set is kept pretty secret. Well, as secret as it can be when you consider that it is inevitably based around the upgraded iPhone handset that has gone a few months before it. But this year, according to UK gadget site Pocket Lint at least, the new features cat is out …

News Story Rumor: 7-inch iPad Available Later This Year
A rather reputable source has tipped off the Economic Daily News in Taiwan that a 7-inch iPad could be in the works for a holiday release this year. iLounge first reported the tip in early August, albeit with a potential release date in early 2011. The source in question has a fairly positive track record, predicting the iPad well before Apple’s official announcement. Another Taiwanese pub, the Digitimes, also reported last week that manufacturing companies have begun production of the 7-inch iPad model. The report from The Economic Daily News names a couple of specific manufacturers for key components in …

News Story Is Steve Jobs planning to quit Apple?
A recent 'heart attack' story which was false, and quickly denied by Apple but not quickly enough to prevent the stock price falling, proves that anything related to Steve Jobs leaving the helm of Apple is a hot potato right now. And while the Fake Steve Jobs is dead, the real chap has neither departed from this life nor is he terminally ill as some reports have suggested. However, now reports are starting to appear in respected online news journals that suggest Steve Jobs is preparing to quit while he and Apple are ahead of the game. While The Inquirer …
