Your computer will need to be wired to your router as wireless will not work. Most manufacturers have a downloadable diagnostic tool that you make a CD from and boot with it to check out your hdd. If you know what hdd you have try that. You could try downloading (on another machine) UBCD, making a Cd and then booting your machine with that and use the utilities to find your problem.
