Hello, Short Summary: My desktop unexpectedly turns off (note, does not shut down, but simply turns off), usually while I am playing high intensity games, like Playerunknown Battlegrounds. To circumvent this problem, I bought and installed a new power supply (750W). The issue happens less frequently, but has still happened twice since installing the new power supply a couple weeks ago. There are no beeps sounding when I boot, and there are no error messages or warnings given. Specs: See attached DxDiag.txt. I appreciate any suggestions for how to combat this. Please let me know what I can do to …

Hey, I recently found out how to shutdown another's computer using yours at school with command prompt and when I tried it, it didn't work. Here's the code: shutdown -i and when I click on browse, it says that the server is unavailable. And here at my school, we login to the network using an assigned 5 digit lunch number and a random password. We technically don't have an actual username to login with. I also learned how to send messages to another computer using command prompt and that doesn't work either: msg [/ persons lunch number] [/message time] [/message] …

Hi everybody, I have a sony vaio VGN-NW 130D and it turns off by itself, it does one of two things every time I move it even a slight little bit; - It completely turns off (no warning, no proper shut down) and the power to it goes, after about 5 seconds the power light turns off and then it starts up again. This occurs when I move the laptop lid (smallest movement causes it), or push harder (still not hard at all) on the keys on the keyboard. It also happens with any movement of the laptop itself. - …

I saw lots of old threads on this problem but could not find a solution so I thought I would share my experience and solution. Hi, I just had a problem that my cpu and case fans would not switch off after shutdown. It turned out to be a dvi-d connector for my graphics card from a vga monitor. It had an option for a usb power boost I.e I could plug the micro usb end into the adaptor and the other into a normal usb to provide power to initiate the diplay. It seems I did not need to …

So I have a HP Pavilion Dv8000 that I am fixing for a friend. I am cmoputer savy enough to take it all apart and put it back together, but I'm stumped. His computer sometimes shuts down a few minutes to few seconds after staring up. If it makes it like 15 min, in and doesn't fail it wont fail until he starts it up again. It won't make it more than 1min, wiht the battery in. I opened it up and cleaned the fan well, and the temps before it crashes are around 30-45 C. The shut down is …

Hey all - I have searched the internet with no luck, so I finally resorted to here to ask for information. I am trying to find a way to find the time it takes to shut down, sleep, and wake from sleep for a Windows 7 install. I understand that there are solutions (BootRacer, Soluto, even the Windows Event Viewer) to find out the boot time for Windows, but I cannot find out how to time the rest of these! Thanks in advance.

Hi every body! you are enjoying. I have a problem that if a person writes in his code: "system("shutdown -s")" in his program and if I run .exe file, my computer shutdowns. How would I dodge this trick?

My pc shut down out of the blue. Am getting the proverbial "Windows did not start successfully" message upon attempting to start it. You know....black screen with white text, giving you several options on starting back up. Regardless of any option I choose, it shuts back down after chossing that option. Any takers? Appreciate it!

The baby pulled out the power plug when I was working on the internet (Chrome) and when I turned the computer back on again several hours later the screen resolution was massive (but I've changed the screen resolution so that's fine) and when I scroll down it does this: a line goes down the screen sort of updating it to what was lower and if I use the scroll bar on the side it is literally stuck until the whole screen is updated. The lagging and updating thingy also happens when I move a small box, ex. a word document …

So I've done some searching and I've found very little helpful information about this subject. My desktop is a HP and I'm using the Windows 7 OS. Doesn't matter what I'm doing rather it be on a web page making a post or just on a new text document, whenever I hit my backspace key on the keyboard my computer will just shut down. It also sparatically happens when I hit ALT or even ENTER. Anyone have any theories? Oh and I've tried exchanging the keyboard as well and running virus scans such as Microsoft security essentials and Mal-ware bytes. …

The problem I am having is with a new rig I was putting together. When I start the computer it keeps on going on and off without even actually starting. The fans startup and shutdown but I can't even get to bios. Its as if the computer gets just enough power to initialize the hardware and then it runs out. At some times it manages to bootup but after a while it freezes and there appears red and green dots/lines all over the screen in varying numbers every time. Of the new rig the mobo (asrock z77 pro), the cpu …

Hi! I'm using Snow Leo with iMac, and it's continuously getting slower and slower to startup. It's 35 sec (without weird HDD) at fresh install or after clearing PRAM. After 3 days now it's 50-60 sec. Last time before I've found out the PRAM trick, it was 90-120 sec. Also there is a weird HDD scrawling at startup I don't know what. The 1st time refers to the desktop showing up with the menus, and the 2nd time is the actual startup finish, when the HDD stops scrawling, and finally I can open a google page. Also when I clear …

Hello community, I am pretty new to c# and i have decided to use COSMOS to build a basic operating system, However, all my code compiles correctly but there is one problem, when i type shutdown, the system hangs, it does not shutdown and the white cursor continues flashing but i cannot type anything. ideally i would like it so that the system automatically powers down after the shutdown command is issued. My code so far:
using System; using Cosmos.Compiler.Builder; namespace CosmosBoot1 { class Program { #region Cosmos Builder logic // Most users wont touch this. This will call …

Symptoms: Laptop boots up and dies in about a minute User had previous trouble with keyboard and had removed and reinserted it before. First 20 seconds of boot attempt is met with that loud "stuck key" repeating sound. Removed keyboard. System began booting without sound, ran for a minute, shut down. Remove hard drive and CD rom. System began booting, gave "no boot device message", hung around for approximately a minute and shut down. Started to disassemble laptop as per instructions here (overheating? stuck fan?) http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-gateway-nv-series-laptop-fix-power-jack/ Got half way into it, saw that fan seemed to be quite clean (laptop …

I'm having an issue with my Dell Dimension 5100 desktop. After running for several minutes, the monitor shuts itself down. (The monitor power light turns solid yellow.) Just prior to this happening, the computer will sound like it is running hard and loud. However, the computer does not shut down, just the monitor. The only way to get the monitor back is to power off the system and reboot. After rebooting, everything appears to work just fine...for a while. Then the monitor goes away again. I replaced the monitor cable/power cord but problem continues. No error messages, no blinking lights. …

So I inherited a Sony VGN-S170 (PCG-6C2L) laptop. It randomly shuts-down, regardless of the activity. First, I thought it was the damaged DC power jack - replaced it, but still shuts down. The battery is completely dead - won't do anything on just battery power, so I've ordered a new battery. But, the shut-down occurs whether the battery is in the bay or not, so I don't believe its a battery issue. I'm using a new adapter, so don't believe that to be an issue either. I've opened the machine, and completely cleaned it out - this brought the temperature …

I figured out how to use time in C since the last time I asked a question here. My new dilemma is that I was wondering if its possible to save user input in a C program so that when the program is closed and executed again it will still have that data stored such as: If Jan checks in for work but is late, the program adds 1 to his late days so that it is now 4 but after being shut down for the night and rebooted next day when it executes again the number of late …

Well this laptop is having a problem. When you turn it on it won't boot (black screen) and then shuts down then boots up, then shuts down, then boots up and so forth. It has a Pentium 4. I took out a intel centrino chip from another laptop and the Acer turned on and stayed on the screen backlight also turned on but still no image on screen. Now the laptop did not turn on and off but instead you can't turn it off unless disconnect power. Thinking it was a busted CPU I bought a new Pentium 4 but …

Hi, I'm trying to do a little project with an embedded board and XP embedded OS to control a little machine. The board will have no monitor, so I need a little routine that when a key is pressed on the keyboard, it invokes a proper Windows shutdown. I want to have the letter "Z" trigger the action. I've found that the sequence I want to run is ultimately this Code:
SHUTDOWN -s -t 01
Can anyone give me some help in turning that into a full script? I'll put the routine in the start folder so that it's always …

I am working on a Compaq Presario SR1318NX. When I turn it on the fan starts out good but as soon as the COMPAQ logo appears the fan speeds up and then it turns off. I have tried running it in safe mode but it says system32\hal.dll is either missing or corrupted and it turns off. I'm wondering if this has to do with the processor fan or could the missing file be the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
