Hello, is it possible to create a website that can **receive a command/word from the user**, and then **search other websites **for a file associated with that word? The file it provides would be based on selecting the file based on a set of **pre-defined criteria**. So the site would have to perform scanning/selecting actions in the background while outputting simply the file result to the user. Can a site perform these background operations such as scanning other sites then selecting a file? I’m very new but eager to learn and excited to read your replies, thank you.

I am working towards the goal of a social site, however, being a beginner, I have many questions I need to answer before getting anywhere! One of these is in regards to embedable scripts/ web apps/ widgets. I would like to allow the users of the site to upload web apps or wdigets that can be used on blogs and as standalone apps. However, I'm worried about a few things. 1) security (how to avoid sql injection(this one probably isnt much of a worry), xss etc) and also 2) how to go about storing/hosting. I would like to be able …

So much of SEO advice around the internet, well what I've found anyway, is based on bloggers or people with content heavy sites. This is making it a little hard to find what I'm after. I can't see websites like Amazon, eBay, DaniWeb even, following this kind of SEO. So the question is, how do websites that provide more of a service, particularly sites where the user comes to do something instead of reading something, perform SEO (offsite) and marketing? Can anyone share some knowledge (perhaps Dani herself?), and try to avoid mentioning paid advertising please -- it's something I …

Hi all, ive searched the site but couldnt find an answer, so here goes: a client has a 2 websites displaying products, if they add/update/delete an entry on the 1st site they should have the option to choose whether or not to update the 2nd site, and vica versa. Each site could have its own mysql db or both sites could share the same database. What different methods of achieving this are there?

Hello, I'm developing an e-commerce site in a LAMP environment. Is it advisable to separate data on to different servers (i.e. to have one server as the web server and another server to house transaction and other customer data)? In other words, from a security perspective is there any reason why I should not house all the data both for the e-commerce webshop and all backend customer and transaction data on a single machine and even in a single database)? [with daily backups of course]. Thanks in advance... Peter

Hi Everyone! I have several blogger blogs. One in particular is getting a good amount of hits a day according to Google stats. It is a non-commercial blog about crafts. It has been very hard to build all of that and it has taken some time. Lots of hard work has gone into it. (I've read posts online of people who have said that if you build a blog, people will surely come to it. That has not been my case, I've had to work for my visitors!)I don't want to move my blog to Wordpress. But i would like …
