I'm trying to just do something fun for the kids in my class. I want to give the top students a USB Drive as a prize that has a link to a whole bunch of fun learning tools. To make that special, I want to be sure the website can't be accessed by anyone not using the link on the USB drive. This does not have to be any high level encryption; just something that works on the surface and can't be easily figured out by a 6th grader. I was thinking to 1) Make the webpage password-protected. 2) Make …

I just bought a 32GB USB stick to store 15.7GB of video on. When I get about halfway, any more video files I add will not play, or in most cases will not even show up. I've tried reformatting a few times.

I am writing a VB.Net (VS 2015) application to control equipment in real time which is connected via USB ports. The equipment requires that text string, terminated by a chr(13) be sent. Most commands will get a response back. For example one command (set VALVE1 ON) will open a valve one on the equipment. When plugging the equipment in it appears as COM7 on my laptop, though I can change this via device manager, and have done so to ensure I don't get the problem just on COM7. the euipment then sends back a string to confirm valve has opened. …

Guys, I’m having a lot of problems with my 64GB usb stick. It worked fine till somehow I think I formatted in exFAT format (that happened in Ubuntu as I was trying to install something on it and I formatted it using I can’t quite remember which utility in Ubuntu), and that’s when the nightmare begun. Every time I’d insert that into the USB port I’d get a “USB needs to be formatted” message. So, I first of all tried to format that from exFAT to NTFS, and I almost managed (in Windows using the format F: /fs:NTFS command): it …

Hello. I have this usb(4gb) which was given to us for free but it's been partitioned. one is 17.7 mb the other is 3.62 gb its not much or anything but its kind of irritating me because instead of only 1 removable disk i have 2 listed. How to remove/merge the 17.7mb part? I tried to reformat it but system says it is write protected. Ive tried *DISKPART* and editing the *StorageDevicePolicies* but nothing happens (as its suppose to make the usb formattable) If anyone can help me out thatd be great! *windows 8.1, 64 bit OS*

I swapped out my HDD for an SSD in my Win 8.1 Lenovo Y480, replacing the HDD in the optical drive slot using an [HDD Caddy](http://hddcaddy.eu/). The system runs fine. I still see the original copy of the Windows System disk that sits on the HDD in Windows listed as drive I:, in addition to the cloned C: drive which is booting from the SSD. I haven't deleted the old copy of the System Drive from the HDD yet, in case of errors &c. as I'm still trying the system. However, when I plug in external USB HDDs now, none …

I am having my friend USB, which contains the error while Formatting, copying, deleting, renaming, moving files from it. The error is `"The Disk is Write Protected"`, I don't Know why this all happens? I try to repair it with the google help and find some common solution and tried too But I failed (i.e. that's don't work for me) My Work (My trials) Regarding the hotfix, I think you can install it directly. The hotfix will replace/update some USB related system files which would be helpful for USB related issues. Actually, I have had this type of issue before …

Hi I am trying to salvage user data from a hard drive that was installed in a Dell laptop. I have plugged it in to a Dell 490 workstation running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit using a USB connection kit - leads and power supply. First I used Chkdsk, it ran for over a week but failed after the PC rebooted due to a MS update. I tried again and Chkdsk completed checking the disk in a shorter time span. Several errors were found and repaired, 25 index issues and a bad cluster. However, I couldn't access the drive's contents. …

I'm wondering how impossible it can be to connect a touch panel (with USB controller) to a PC for it to send X,Y coordinates when an event happens (the panel is touched). After searching the web for an entire day I couldn't find more then pieces of information that don't tell the whole story. Most of what I understood so for is that I can buy some touch panel development kit ([ebay](http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-6-4-Wire-Resistive-Touch-Screen-Panel-Digitizer-126-5x100mm-USB-controller-/271523635500?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f3811e12c)), create some basic C code that acts like a driver and then use those C functions to handle input on the device in other applications. Question is, is …

Hello, I have a USB key on which I do all of my programming. It is formatted as an NTFS drive with 32 gigabytes of space. On this drive I have large C::B projects which contain both windows and linux executables. When I try to run the linux executables it gives me a permission denied error. I tried right-clicking on the USB name on the left of the default Ubuntu file viewer and setting 'Allow executing file as program' but it wouldn't hold. Then I tried running `sudo chmod -R a+x media/USBKeyName`, it took a few seconds to run, but …

Win7/32/laptop: I don't know if this is the correct area or should I be in hardware. I've always understood you go in and click to remove USB hardware from the computer, and that if you don't it will eventually ruin the port, or screw up driver/software. On my wife's laptop two of the three USB2.0 sockets have quit functioning. She never remembers to click before removing. I don't know what goes bad and if there is a possibility of port repair with a driver, or if they've just flat gone bad. Would appreciate any input. We all forget sometimes, and …

I want to make an application with VB.NET that will use this USB MODEM to send and receive SMS to different mobile carriers. I want it to send SMS using the SIM Card inserted into the USB Modem. I have been turning my USB thumb drives into fully encrypted data containers for years now, but readily admit that the prospect of rolling up your sleeves and getting down and dirty with encryption software is not as exciting to everyone as it is to me. However, with removable USB data storage devices having hit the pricing point where they have well and truly become commoditized and the data stored upon them of increasing value to those who would cause you financial injury, it really isn't safe to carry data around unencrypted; so what to do if DIY encryption isn't …

It's not often I start a new thread, but I've hit a bit of an unusual problem...Admittedly one of my own making... I have a laptop with a completely dead HD, which I've been using for a while with Ubuntu 9.10 installed on a bootable 8Gb USB stick with approx 3Gb of persistent storage. I've been using it for a little while now and everything was going rather swimmingly until I ran Bleachbit to clear some space by cleaning some of the caches, but somehow it completely borked the install so it won't boot fully. (Not sure exactly how I …

Devices attached to the usb 3 ports were all working before the reformat, and it works on Ubuntu as well. But after my reformat, I installed my drivers and I can't seem to get it working. Green is in these days, and so is saving money. The EcoStrip 2.0 looks like a common power strip with built-in surge protection but it actually works to save you money while reducing your carbon footprint. The EcoStrip 2.0 comes with a USB connector that you plug into your PC to activate its magic ability. Once connected it knows when you shut down your PC [or Mac], then it cuts all power to the remaining ports on the power strip. Everything else you plug into the EcoStrip stops drawing power the moment your computer is off. According to the International …

I made great progress this morning in resolving a number of problems that were plaguing my Win7 laptop. It was difficult to find good info about how to resolve these problems. I can provide more details if anyone needs them. Here are the bare bones: * **High CPU** There are a number of common programs that churn the CPU. These are known problems but the Software companies don't seem to care. **CONDUIT Search Protect** From what I've read, this is almost like a virus. Softronic Download service has an agreement with them and include this in their 'Express' downloads. If …
