Starbucks is a coffee house, not a dating service, so if people meet at starbucks, should it just close down and people stop going there? Universities are for education, so if people meet in class should the school just shut down and people stop learning???? Plus, it's a total manipulation of my post to say "DaniWeb if it were turned into some sort of dating service" ... as if the site would not be I/T anymore... what I said was it should simply have a forum for people to meet. If two DW memebers get together for coffee, that should be cool.

True, but that thread was started back in the days when Daniweb wasn't nearly as professional as it is today.
Besides, that thread is in the coffee-house where all non-it-related threads are. If want to start dating on DW, just start a thread here in the coffee-house and I'll do my best to ignore it ;)

A lounge thread is one thing, but a "Singles Scene" forum really has no relation to a technical forum site. A dating forum is a different genre altogther and adding one would only serve to commingle unrelated user populations.

Your task will be an uphill battle, as there are a fair number of "stick in the mud" ultra conservative members. To them a dating spot will be similar to the idea of same sex marriage. :)

this thread is totally out of what daniweb is about and i dont think it should even be open up in coffee house or anywhere in daniweb!this idea is totally ridiculous......there are other site devoted to this go there.this site is devoted to IT and stuff related...
What an insanely hypocritical post. You say this thread shouldn't be here, but you actually contribute to the thread! If you think it is "unrelated" to DW, then why would you read it, much less reply to it?
That's the great thing... no one forces anyone to participate. So those that wouldn't care to be part of it, simply wouldn't visit the section. For instance, I don't code in PHP, so I never visit the PHP section -- just not relevant or appealing to me.

It might be a nightmare to moderate though, as far as people posting racy stuff or whatever. Some people don't have the best judgment as far as what to post to the whole world.

We don't delete threads based solely on personal opinion -- if that were the case it would have been deleted after the initial thread starter. No, we only delete threads that are gross violations of the Rules.

I guess you have failed to realize that most threads in the Geeks Lounge are irrelevant and it's whole purpose is to serve as a place for such off-topic discussions. A forum specifically for dating is outside the intent of the site, but a lounge thread on it is no different than any other random lounge post.
