I'm looking at some easy to use web design software. So far Ive been using ewisoft which I find quite easy but they include an ad for website builder on it. Can anyone recommend easy to use web design software for a complete novice please?

Google is your friend here. There are many to choose from. I cannot reccoment any particular one, because I do not use any of those myself.

If I can take an educated guess, I think the way to go will be opensource type of designing software.

There are many free text editor available. Of course with text editors comes the fact that one needs to know how to code by hand to a large degree. jEdit is a really good free text editor. Also, there is "Html-Kit Tools" that free and really good.

If you're a beginner you could probably pick up an older version of dreamweaver really cheap. It's geared towards easy to use GUI web design.
