Hey there im just new to this forum and like many others i also seem to have a problem... Didn't really wanna hassle anyone but after searchin through some posts i still couldnt find an answer to my problem.

Basically i have downloaded some albums tonight from sites such as rapidshare and megaupload... and now every time i click on ym windows explorer or firefox it says there has been a problem and the program needs to close.. ofcourse giving me the option to forget about it or send an error report.

Not only that but my windows media player will not open either.. the cursor will do its usualy loading sign for a split second and thats all the activity with that one over.

I know this is my first post and i probably sound like a pain in the arse!! but help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

A short, practical summary and recovery workflow based on the HJT log and the replies from and .

The symptoms (Explorer/Firefox crashing when launched, media player failing to open, removal tools being blocked) are typical of a startup/browser-hook infection that hides as BHOs/toolbars and injects into Explorer/Winlogon. Diagnostic logs help; the HJT already posted shows multiple broken browser objects and extra startup hooks — those are the hooks preventing normal apps from running. As noted, bundled toolbars/sponsor installers frequently persist unless their autostart hooks are removed.

Immediate containment (do this first)

  • Physically disconnect the machine from the network and stop running/downloading any unknown files.
  • Make a careful backup of personal documents, photos and mail only (do not copy .exe/.msi/.zip installers). If access to Windows is unreliable, use a Linux live-USB to copy files to an external drive.
  • Do not rely on System Restore to “clean” the system — restore points can harbor the infection.

Step‑by‑step cleanup (common, repeatable sequence)

  1. Boot Safe Mode (F8).
  2. Kill active malware processes before running scanners — use a process-terminator utility designed for this role. (bleepingcomputer.com)
  3. Run a dedicated anti‑malware scan (use a modern offline-capable scanner) and a second-opinion on-demand scanner. (malwarebytes.com)
  4. Use an autostart/shell-extension inspector to find and disable non-Microsoft entries (Explorer add-ons, BHOs, Winlogon notifications, Run keys). Then remove the backing files once processes are stopped. (learn.microsoft.com)

Quick commands and checks

sfc /scannow

(run from an elevated prompt or recovery environment to check core system file integrity).

If scanners are blocked or the infection persists: run the rescue/bootable AV media to scan offline, or copy critical data to another clean machine for deeper inspection. If automatic removal cannot be achieved and core OS files remain compromised, a clean OS reinstall after data backup is the most reliable option.

Prevention notes: avoid untrusted file sources, keep OS/AV updated, and use a standard (non-administrator) daily account. The thread’s diagnostic HJT was useful; a fresh autostart/Autoruns output after containment will clarify any remaining persistent entries.

im going offline now but i will check back later and any help would be great, thanks

Ok sorry but that all confused me, i'm not really the brightest. Elsewhere i have been reccomended to download Adware2008, ATF cleaner, ComboFix, and HJT. I have tried and tried to open these programs after downloading them, and they are all blocked.... if anyone knows anything of this sort of problem... help would be good.

i did 2 days ago. scroll down the main forum, sorry and thanks

then only make one post ,and just reply in the other

I did on numerous occasions. Therefore i made a new post, and magically there was more or less instantanious results. But lets concentrate on the matter that there is something messing with my computer if that's ok. your expertise would be much appreciated.

i don't understand,i really don't. thnk you dlh6213 for trying with me.. it was much appreciated.

Uninstall Messenger Plus as it comes bundled with LOP, the infection you currently enjoy :). You can reinstall Messenger Plus without the sponsor.

===============

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall 'Window Search', 'Window Searching', '', 'LOP SEARCH', 'Browser Enhancer', or 'Ultimate Browser Enhancer' if listed. You may be given a code to insert, do so and reboot when done. If not listed there, run the Lop Remover from:
