Symptoms — Explorer and Internet Explorer crash in normal mode but work in Safe Mode — are classic for a third‑party shell extension or Browser Helper Object (BHO) injecting a bad DLL into Explorer/IE. The HijackThis output in the first post shows a suspicious BHO entry (named "Lamsa") that points to a DLL in the system folder; that kind of entry often causes exactly the behavior described. 's approach (disabling third‑party browser extensions/add‑ons) is the right quick test and explains why Safe Mode (which disables those extensions) behaved normally.

Recommended cleanup and verification steps:

  • Boot to Safe Mode and make a backup (copy important files and create a System Restore point before changing things).

  • Use Autoruns (Sysinternals) or ShellExView to show and disable non‑Microsoft shell extensions and BHOs. In Autoruns, enable "Hide Microsoft Entries" and uncheck unknown items; export the configuration first.

  • Unregister and remove a confirmed malicious DLL from Safe Mode. Example commands (run from an elevated command prompt):

    regsvr32 /u "C:\Windows\System32\gopfa.dll"
    del /f /q "C:\Windows\System32\gopfa.dll"

(Replace the filename with the actual suspicious DLL found in logs.)

  • Run offline/on‑boot scans with updated Malwarebytes and a second opinion scanner, then run:

    sfc /scannow
    chkdsk C: /f

Further checks and cautions:

  • Inspect the Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc → Windows Logs → Application) for Explorer.exe faults and note any “Faulting module” names for confirmation.
  • If Explorer still crashes, create a new user profile to rule out a corrupt profile.
  • Avoid blind registry edits — export keys before removal. If unsure, a repair install or professional cleanup may be safer.

Outcome note: disabling third‑party extensions resolved the immediate crash for , but the steps above help remove remnants, verify system integrity, and reduce the chance of recurrence.

First click start > Run type in inetcpl.cpl go to the advanced tab. Locate "Enable third party browser extentions" And uncheck it click apply. Next go to programs tab and click manage addons disable any addons that don't have a publisher or are number/letter. Click ok and close out of all browser windows. Try launching internet explorer again. Also try my computer to see if this has resolved your issue.

If you haven't all ready you may want to try a system restore to a point you know that your computer was working.
Good luck.

thanks alot, this seems to have worked
