something is wrong with my computer, it's running really slow and it keeps freezing up on me, can anyone help me? i'm running vista and i've attached the hijack this log below. Thanks!

What are you using for an anti-virus?

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following, if present:

Viewpoint Manager,Viewpoint Media Player,Viewpoint Toolbar

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

Reboot.

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

If I were you I would download the AV in my sig. McAfee is crap anyway :).
Not seeing anything wrong in your log.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

You say you are waiting to install McAfee...your log shows that there are remaining Symantec/Norton entries in Services.
When did you uninstall this program? And WHY was HiJackThis run in Safe Mode with Networking? It should be run in normal mode?

oh and i forgot to add, my computer is acting extremely slow in normal startup and is essentially frozen, i'm forced to use safe-mode with networking to do anything

this is really stupid of me but i'm not actually using anything for anti-virus right now, i was planning on installing mcafee but i was never able to get around to it.

i uninstalled viewpoint media player but couldn't find viewpoint manager or toolbar, i also couldn't find the folder in program files/viewpoint

Your first log was run in normal mode. We don't get a full picture if HJT is run in safe mode is the reason I asked.
What about all those Symantec entries? Has it been uninstalled or just turned off?

Basically yes, MBA-M for sure, it won't work properly in Safe Mode. This is directed by the creator of the program.
HJT should be run in normal mode because this is the only way we can see what is actually running on the computer.
May I ask, where you are located?

Sorry you had to resort to reformat. Sometimes though it is the best way to go.
After the computer is totally reloaded you might run a new HJT scan and post it back here. We can take a look at it to be certain all is well.

reformating's a pain but it had to be done, on a different note, after i reformatted, i've been noticing that when i'm running mozilla, my computer will freeze for half a minute to a minute at a time, i haven't used internet explorer much but as far as i can tell, the same thing isn't happening in IE, i can't for the life of me figure out what's going on, i've attached the hijackthis log below, thanks!!

Get service pack 1 for Vista and see how things go. A lot of different problems got sorted out with that.

Also looks to me like the java program is out of date. Current version is version 6 update 11. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Download the Offline install and save it to the desk top. Close all browsers and double click to install.
Once the install is complete then go back to the download page and click Verify Now on the right side to verify the installation was fully successful.

i installed service pack 1 and the java update but the problem still seems to be lingering, especially when the computer has been on for a while, i'm hoping it's not broken ram but i don't know
