I've been trying to find a resolution to this problem for a bit now to no avail. I have been surprised at the number of similar problems that have been solved, and some not, but none of these fixes has worked for my situation. I have registered a bunch of DLLs, set my security to default levels, run spybot and disabled my firewall without relief. The symptoms are that I cannot log into many sites, including hotmail, all of which simply return a blank page. I also cannot access Windows update. I believe that this problem started when I uninstalled the Yahoo toolbar, which was causing my computer to repeatedly crash. Unfortunately this problem also seems to be preventing me from downloading the latest yahoo toolbar version, which I was hoping would restore some lost or damaged dll file or something (I really don't want the toolbar).

Thanks for your help.

Nevermind... kind of. I walked away came back and now things are different. I am guessing that one of the dll's I registered fixed it and I just failed to restart IE before trying again. Windows update works, but hotmail still does not come up. I get a permission denied message instead.... So I reset my trusted sites and all works now. Even though your help was not required you still helped, because it was the previous posts that got me here, and thats what counts.

So thanks.
