Hello - I need help reading a HijackThis log.

For a long time now I have not been able to access anything with Microsoft Management Console (MMC) nor use my search function. Although annoying, I have worked around it.

I needed to upgrade my Windows Media Player yesterday and could not. I realized then that I have not been getting Windows Update notifications for a LONG time and tried the site through IE. Blank screen.

I searched the net and tried some solutions, one of which required WinXP to generate a genuine/validation code and it could not, only gave me an error.

I've thought for a long time that there is something my spyware programs/anti-viruses aren't catching, so I need help.

I use Norton Antivirus (had the latest version but had to roll back to 2003 edition due to some script errors.) I had Norton Firewall, had problems and uninstalled it in favor of McAfee but had validation problems, so I am only using Windows Firewall temporarily. As for anti-spyware programs I run both Spybot and Ad-Aware (with the VX2 cleaner add-on.)

I know my system is a mess from years of upgrades without any clean reinstallations of Windows, but with all my tweaks, small programs, and multimedia files, I'm seriously avoiding starting over fresh at all costs.

Your log looks clean (in terms of malware) to me. But as I just learned, please rename HiJackthis.exe to something you like (DonaldDuck.exe or something else) and run/post it again. If nothing changes, malware is seemingly not the problem. I've found some similar problems on Google, but I had no luck finding a solution.
