My Virus scanner warned me that it had detected a trojan horse.
When I sut down my laptop I get an error message, isamonitor not initialized, dll, because windows is shutting down. When I open my browser I get as a start page http://iehomepages.com/ were it is sugesting me to use safety programs, so I donwloaded one. Then I noticed I didnt need it an it was just trying me to buy the product. The website keeps on coming and I removed the downloaded free scan under control panel-software but I still have it in my taskbar. I believe this website is a part of spyware. Please do understand I am not a computer expert ICT names/terms are not really known to me.
I believe I have the problem of spy/adware (I dont know the difference). Scan tell me this, so maybe you know a free scanner and remover for this?
Please can somebody help me getting my laptop back to normal!!!

Hi,
First we need to know what malware/viruses is in your system. We need to look at your Hijackthis log.
Do not fix any entries in Hijackthis, just post the entire log here.

"isamonitor" is a smitfraud file so you most probably have smitfraud infection, the hijackthis log will confirm if you do have smitfraud or not.

Sorry but I really dont know the term hijackthis log, were can I find it? doing a virus scan?

Sorry, a hijackthis log is the result of the Hijackthis scan.
Hijackthis.exe is a little tool that scans your system for the presence of malware. It will then lists all the places in the registry where malware are known to hide.

If you have malware in your pc then it will show up in the hijackthis log.

What you need to do is download and run Hijackthis.exe, and post the resulting log.

Here's the link to Hijackthis, exe. the default install path is your Program Files.

Please download HijackThis 1.99.1
http://www.cyberanswers.org/forum/uploads/HijackThis1991.exe
Open Hijackthis, click "Do a system scan and save a logfile" don't fix anything yet.

Just post the entire log here.

Here is my log:

Hi,
You have smitfraud infection there!

Step 1:
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

Step 2:
After you've done step 1 and posted the log,
please do the second step.
You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
along with a new hijackthis log.

Is the problem now totally solved?

I need to see your hijackthis log.

Smitfraud infection has been removed.
Smitfraudfix detected a rootkit driver, can you run this tool Gmer to check for rootkits.

Download GMER from here:
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip
Unzip it and start GMER.exe
Click the rootkit-tab and click scan.
Once done, click the Copy button.
This will copy the results to clipboard.
Paste the results in your next reply.
If you're having problems with running GMER.exe, try it in safe mode.

Hi,
First we need to know what malware/viruses is in your system. We need to look at your Hijackthis log.
Do not fix any entries in Hijackthis, just post the entire log here.

"isamonitor" is a smitfraud file so you most probably have smitfraud infection, the hijackthis log will confirm if you do have smitfraud or not.
