HI

Would anyone be able to help me?

I have removed a number of viruses from my laptop? Many were Trojan Horses and a couple of programs. I have scanned my computer with three different anti viruses and it is coming up clean. These are Mcafee, AVG and Antivir

After there is a problem in starting up my machine. I didnt remove any files from the Windows folder. The machine is able to be rebooted in safe mode. I tried a number of time in normal mode and out of 10 times it started 5 even then it takes far long to load and shows a black screen which looks like it is shut down before showing a cursor and loading up.

Would anyone be able to help solve this? Is there still an other virus on my machine or a file that shouldnt be there.

Any more information required please ask and will try to reply as quick as possible

Thanks

I can only pray that you have a system restore point before you ran the virus programs.

This is from Yahoo! Tech-
"Reader Walter Leonard Jr. writes: I have read in a past column that there is no one security suite that will or can detect all security threats. I use Norton. Is it possible to utilize another like McAfee also? Will they run together without conflicts?

In general this is a terrible idea. Running multiple security applications at the same time, particularly anything that runs in real time like antivirus or firewall programs, can wreak havoc on Windows, crash your computer, give you many headaches, and, in the very best case, merely slow your computer to a crawl.

The problem is worst with antivirus programs, which is designed to keep constant tabs on files being changed or created without your knowledge. But since antivirus programs are constantly doing this kind of thing behind the scenes, there's a good chance one program will try to block the behavior of the other program, and vice versa. The result could be a catastrophic failure of both applications (leaving you without any protection), or just general instability in Windows. This is so common that if you try to install one antivirus app on top of another, many installers will warn you not to do so."

Basically the virus applications started ripping each other and any system they were protecting apart, not to mention that virus systems find viruses by comparing the names of files to a harmless list. Another program would see that definition file as a virtual hell of viruses eating up your system because it is also just matching file names- it probably asked you to delete programs that were not viruses at all.

I recommend that you Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore and pick an access point that lies before you installed ANY anti-virus program or at least before you installed the second. Right now your registry is probably in shreds so you need to restore the computer to before the antivirus programs were installed at all preferably.
In the future you should pick a good antivirus that automatically updates every day. I recommend free source anti virus programs because the writers of most virulent programs test themselves to evade the biggest names, and the priciest mainstream programs. In general the most effective programs are the free ones. I suggest my favorite - Avast free edition from avast.com or you can get AVG free edition. Both are top rated programs that update constantly. You will find that some of the worst rated systems are the biggest such as Norton who may keep updated but is a huge strain on Memory while it is running, and uses plenty cpu when it is just doing a slow constant scan.

The rest of the viruses out there can be smoked out using a combination of Anti-spyware programs in conjunction with each other. I have found that many people like the free program spybot.exe from spybot.com, one like Ad-Aware, and a preventative guard that checks activity before it gets in the computer such as SpyBlaster. Or substitute a monthly HiJackThis! log report submittal for one of the above. Make sure to run them one at a time, but they can all be installed together unlike virus programs which run constantly and don't work well together. If you are unable to restore the computer, I am afraid you are going to have to restore the entire system via Norton Ghost if you have it- or reinstall the OS and return the computer to factory settings. Before you do all of this, see if you can restore the files from the chest if you put them there. Hopefully a simple system restore will have you functional in a hurry!
