My pages load extremely slow on Internet Explorer. My DSL internet provider did a check and my speeds are fine. All worked great when they connected their lap top to my DSL line. The slow page loads was narrowed down to my puter.

I have done the following already:

ran ad-aware
Scanned with AVG

I have tried to run cwshredder, but each time a popup says, "CWShredder has encountered a problem and needs to close." I uninstalled and redownloaded, still same error message.

Could someone please look at this HJT log and tell me if there is something making pages load slow on Internet Explorer. Also, any ideas on getting CWShredder to run?

Can you please do the following.

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following, if present:

MyWebSearch

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...p=ZRxdm497YYUS

O9 - Extra button: Grand Online Poker - {40B2063F-DB01-4962-BE63-59435C01283C} - C:\PROGRA~1\GRANDO~1\client.exe (file missing)

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

Thanks for the replies.

I Scanned with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following,

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...p=ZRxdm497YYUS

O9 - Extra button: Grand Online Poker - {40B2063F-DB01-4962-BE63-59435C01283C} - C:\PROGRA~1\GRANDO~1\client.exe (file missing)

I then clicked "fix checked". Still takes pages long time to load.

I noticed McAfee Security Center shows in the Add/Remove programs list, but when I click remove, nothing happens. Why? This computer has previously had Norton and McAfee on it and I thought I had uninstalled all the files.

Here's the latest HJT log.

I notice C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe and O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background in the HJT log. Is this MSN Messenger. I don't use that if so. How do I remove it?

Also, what about O8 - Extra context menu item: &AOL Toolbar search - res://C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML. What is this and can I remove it to?

Regarding O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/msmsgs.exe-3386.html and follow the instructions.

To remove orphaned entries in Add/Remove Software you can try the following.
Before manually editing the registry always back it up. On Windows ME and XP creating a Restore Point will do.
Click Start > Run > Type or copy & paste regedit. The registry editor will open.
Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete the offending entry in the right hand pane.

Your log looks clean now, so I am not sure why you are getting slow load times.

I think I have tried everything and still no luck getting pages to open faster in Internet Explorer. I know it is this computer because the ADSL conection works fine on others.

Another weird thing I noticed is some program files I have downloaded won't work. For example, I downloaded Advanced Windows Care Home Edition, and when I go to run the program I get a popup that says, "Advanced Windows Care has encountered a problem and must close." This popup gives the send error repot or not option. I can down load the file on another computer and it wortks fine.

Any further advise would be greatly appreciated. Maybe a match and some gasoline is the answer.

Go here and download then run Silent Runners.vbs. Right click on the download link and select Save Target As. Save it to the desktop or to a folder in a permanent directory. It generates a log which will be created in the same folder you are running it from. Please post the information back in this thread.
If you have a script blocking program, please allow the file to run. It is not malicious.

Crunchie, Thanks for your help with this. Here is the Silent Runners log
