Hi, can someone let me know if there's anything that needs fixed on my HJT log. I've laready fixed the easy ones per the instructions on a thread.

The other thing i want back to normal is my IE browser. Its been taken over by Starware. I've uninstalled the software but the browser has not changed. Any ideas? thanks.

As described, the Internet Explorer home/start behavior stayed modified after the Starware package was removed. ’s suggestion to restore the hosts file is a solid, common first move; many redirects are driven by hosts changes. Hosts fixes alone often do not fully restore a browser because hijacks can also persist via proxy settings, BHOs/toolbars, altered shortcuts, startup items, modified Winsock/LSPs, or changed DNS settings.

Recommended next steps (in order): export Favorites and create a restore point; reset Internet Explorer settings from Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reset; open Manage Add-ons and disable unknown toolbars/BHOs; inspect any Internet Explorer shortcut Target for appended URLs; clear Temporary Internet Files; check LAN/Proxy settings and adapter DNS settings. Repair the network stack with these commands and reboot afterward:

ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset

Follow up with an up-to-date malware scan (Malwarebytes or equivalent) and a full antivirus scan. Use Autoruns to find persistent startup/Run/RunOnce/AppInit_DLLs entries and enable/disable items safely; Autoruns identifies BHOs, scheduled tasks, and browser helper locations that HijackThis may not list clearly (Autoruns). If the homepage still redirects, check Scheduled Tasks and the registry only after backing it up. For stubborn cases consider a rootkit check (TDSSKiller/GMER) before making aggressive removals.

Caution: editing the registry or removing entries without a backup can break the system. After the cleanup steps above, a fresh HijackThis scan will confirm which artifacts remain and whether further targeted removal is required. This complements ’s hosts-file step and helps ensure the hijack is fully cleared.

Download the
Run it and press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.
Note that if you have a custom host file, this will remove it. You can edit the host file with this program too.

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL =

O11 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*

O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://bt.yahoo.com

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.
