LOL, I finally stopped thinking about it for a second, and the obvious answer of WinZip came to me... thanks tho to all who have taken the time to read this, and as well thanks for the reply caperjack :)

MoNkEe 0 Light Poster

Thanks for the reply, but I was thinking more along the lines, if I want to put a code in a textbased game I am working on, where if you find the password, you can open a file with graphics (in a seperate window) that coincides with it... ?

I'm not sure if I am explaining this right?

MoNkEe 0 Light Poster

Not quite sure if this would be the best place to post this, but if not I'm sorry.

Was just wondering, I heard there was a way to save a file, and require a password to reopen it? Is this true? And if so how do I do that? And is this true for a graphics file as well?

I'm using windows XP if that makes a difference :)

Thanks for any help,

Hey there Dani but not me. Welcome to the site. Hope you find what you're looking for here. So your dad's a programmer, eh? So what sorta games did he develop? ;)

LOL..... ever play any of Scott Adams Grand Adventures? Late 70's early 80's, as I understand it he was the first to put adventure games on the personal computer. Which of course is why I'm trying to do the text-based game for his birthday :) ..... LOL, which was the other day, but hey, you know how deadlines can be im sure... lol :)

just wanted to say thank you for suggesting I check out Qbasic's help!! ... WoW!! I've learned so much more that way in just a few hours, then I had searching the net for tutorials and such... Thank you so much! ....

... and now back to your regularly scheduled answers ;)

I am curious what you meant though by being sure I read the data in the same order I wrote it?? Thanks ahead of time for the info! :)

Ok, so I'm Dani (ironic enough), but not *the Dani*, I'm just the MoNkEe ... I'm newly trying to learn Basic, and maybe in a month or so I'll tackle some C++.
My dad's a programmer, some of you probably played his games waybackwhen, so you'd figure I'd know more, but never really got into being interested in it till recently. I've known HTML for about ten years now. Don't have a website up right now, haven't had time to work on one for a while. But could still just as easily write out one on a notepad any day lol... :)

Mainly I'm here looking for some QBASic help, and who knows what else, cause who knows where this crazy world wide web might take me... ;)

Whoops, forgot to mention I am using QBASIC to do this ... not Visual Basic :) (not sure if that makes a difference?) ... Thanks again for any input!! And for helping to point me in the right direction! :)

First off, I wanna say, I'm not a conventional student, posting homework problems. I am a student, in the fact that I am learning BASIC/Qbasic. But I'm not going to school to learn it, just kinda feeling my way around learning. If that makes sense?

The main reason I am learning it is because I am trying to make a text-based adventure game for my father. Some of you may have played his games in the past, he use to make text-based games, way back when. Which of course is why I'm making him a text-based game for his birthday.

That being said, I have just about got the game completed, except for, what I see as, a crucial part. I'm not sure how to program it so that the user can save the game, and come back to it later? I've looked around online and found nothing that seems to answer my question. And unfortunately I've procrastinated on finding this information out till now, so I can't get a book at the library on it... His birthday is tomorrow (well today, technically), and I'm hoping to have this complete by sunday. So if anyone has any help for me I'd *greatly* appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!,
MoNkEe
