You might "corrupt" me into saying you.

The thing that annoys me is you can be singular or plural. It's normally obvious when it's one or another. But sometimes you (plural, I changed from ye :)), or one, doesn't know until after what it was. I'm going it for ... ye.

That's what I meant from the start :) Maybe I should work on being more clear in what I say. I understand now. There's a nice simple one I used before called ... ah ... I'll get back to you. It crashed a lot, but was nice and easy and had next to no features ... I think it was MS Sound Recorder :P Nah. Only messing.

You should take one of those space tours. Might be expensive, but definitely worth it! Probably a bsc.

Did you not notice the * ?? I was referring to the English language.

Besides, it's only for the summer. It'll take more than that to come up with a good kidnap plan to get me. You're going to have to sort out accommodation, flights, transport and the cheapest way to do that is by booking early. Ye have till september 14th :D

I've been known to use poetic license copiously when describing things :) But things that are different from one another are not the same (I know it sounds like a self evident truth). Meh. I know you were kidding.

>>Nihilists offer the only truth to everything
"Nihilism is a doctrine stating that no objects have an intrinsic characteristic of truth. Therefore everything that we perceive to be true can only be mere individual or social constructions, or the meanings that we attach to them. Therefore nihilism views the world as a social construct with no objective truth. "

I think you misunderstood me.

What I meant was: what difference does it make to us what happened to the BC people? I know some people have questions, and I think we came to a consensus that these BC people (according to the Bible), can 'make it' to heaven. So ... while it's an interesting topic for discussion (to some), ... does it make a difference? Get me? I do not think life is pointless. You should seek a meaning.

twomers 408 Posting Virtuoso

I know it's only Catholics who believe in Purgatory. It's kinda frustrating the way different religions of the same "breed" have conflicting views and hence there is possible friction between believers' opinions and beliefs. One could argue that an omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent God could know which people from the BC times would make it after the BC/AD transfer and hence why have purgatory ... heh, maybe he can predict things by knowing chemical reactions etc, as per the OP's first thread? Only kidding.

It's unclear in the Bible, so who knows? The question is does it matter in the final scale of things? Just don't time travel people :D

>> I have also heard parts of this theory. Which I'm not sure if I believe in, because what would be the purpose of sacrificing a lamb to "wash" away your sins?
Yeah. It belittles the worth of the act, doesn't it?
I've heard of a "holding" area (I can't remember what it was called though. They're all theories anyways).

>> Are you saying that before Christianity was founded, everyone on earth had been going to hell for thousands of years?

BC/AC. Old/New Testament. Old laws, new laws. Old ways, new ways. Old roads, new roads. Etc.

Before Jesus' death (according to the Bible), the laws of Moses as given by God (ie the ten commandments), were the rules one had to abide by to get to Heaven. To 'pay' for your sins (to have them forgiven), you you had to sacrifice lambs, doves without defect etc according to the sin you committed as dictated by the laws and through the priests of the time. Jesus is known as the Lamb of God. ie when he died he God's sacrifice to humanity to save them from death and hell. By his death all sins are forgiven.

So no. If people (in BC times), abided by the laws as they were then (ten commands and sacrifices etc), they could get to heaven. That is why things changed. Jesus' death was the ultimate sacrifice. He was (metaphorically), the perfect lamb. Without blemish. Without sin. He died for us and all our sins (for those who trust in him rather), so that we don't have to.

So now your arguement is that you're better at doing exams than us so you've gotta be right :) Only kidding.

>> Do you believe that all other religions are wrong except yours?
Honestly, I don't think it's really a good idea to judge that kind of thing when you yourself don't believe in God. I can't think of a good reason for this statement, but once I do I'll post it. Not a reason, reasoning. Or an analogy explaining it. Suppose you believe in God (as per the Bible), then you believe he is all powerful, knowing and forgiving. If he is all powerful why would you even consider following another one?

Nah. It's called faith for a reason. There's always going to be doubt (maybe not for the person who has the faith, but for 'observers'), so you have to trust in something.

>> but when I read a post that says something untrue about my faith, I will stand up for it, regardless.
You're dead right. Stand up for what you believe in!

twomers 408 Posting Virtuoso

Right.

Well, I'm currently in third year of a four year degree course. Hmm. How should I do this? Just give you a year on year blow by blow description?

Firstly the course is very mathematically orientated. If, when you start it, you have any difficulties with any mathematical concepts you should definately sort them out ASAP. They're going to come back to haunt you. My first year was basically an introductory year. We covered some subjects which weren't directly related to the course (physics, chemistry and stats), though I must admit they are used somewhat (physics as in mechanics now). Other courses included circuit analysis, telecoms, digital systems ... I can't remember the rest too well. The year in total was interesting, but in relation to the others I've had it was the most boring, IMO. The subjects are to get the students' heads around the concepts. If they were to just get stuck in it wouldn't make any sense. It's always nice to understand why thing A is thing A and not something else.

In second year the subjects we studied started to get much more interesting - more coms subjects, but this year digital communications rather then telecommunications (best subject ever). We also started to get into other subjects which are what most would describe as classical electrical engineering - such as power electronics. However, they still gave us some unnecessary subjects such as mechanical engineering. While I can see why (engineers are meant …

Christina>you (can' I just call you Christina for now on?), honestly, do you follow Christianity now because of what your parents/friends do? Did it start off that way? Is it now that way?

Can't people just accept that some people have some views that others just can't agree to. Consider the views of the OP - they're mad (really) :) who has dissed him for putting forward such an obscure idea? Nobody did seriously. Why do you feel the necessity to give out to Christians? Just accept that they have certain views. Does it hurt you?
