We ran all the virus scan/spyware stuff we have (We had a problem with "cannot find server" for a while and had to deal with that, and basically cleaned the computer out very thoroughly.)

I haven't seen the .gov thing, but all the servers are blocked.

P.S. no it's not for shareware... it's for a game I have... the shops restock once a day, and I'm very impatient to buy stuff...

Okay, here is the long and short of it.
Today is April 25th 6:48 MST
I want my computer clock to be set to uhm let's say the 17th of April.
I right click on the time in the bottom right corner (windows XP proffessional) I click "Adjust Date/Time"
I click on the 17th of April and hit APPLY
within SECONDS it jumps back to
April 25th.

I have clicked on the "internet time" tab and disabled the synchronization there. I have searched my computer to see if at some point I downloaded one of those synch clocks like atomic clock or something, and I don't see anything.
I have disconnected my computer from the internet and tried again (this worked! But alas, it's like oxygen, I can't go without for long. Even if I'm not using it, just knowing it's a click away...) So I know it has SOMETHING to do with that...

And to the point:
If I want today to be the 17th then by golly my computer should tell me it's the 17th!!!! I've done this on a million (okay maybe not QUITE that many, but still...) computers and yet for some reason I CAN NOT GET THE SYNCHRONIZATION DISABLED!!!!

So yeah, not a dire issue, but aggrevating none the less!
Hope y'all have plenty of suggestions for me!

(Stupid real time games and thier addictiveness! =P)

Okay, I went ahead and had HJT fix the files you indicated. I searched for the three listed files... I only found the AUSERINIT.exe the other two were not found. However, Besides AUSERINIT.exe in Windows/system32 I also found it in windows\prefetch it was labeled as AUserInit.exe-28c2885f.pf should I do anything with this? (I left it alone for the time being.)
I also rebooted in safe mode and cleared out all of the temp files indicated. I think that perhaps that may have been part, if not most of the problem... I normally delete the history, and any temp internet files/cookies on a semi regular basis... however, going through ALL the users, I found over 400 files. So hopefully that helps... again, I'll wait and see...
in the mean time this is my new HJT log... sorry about the iexplorer on the first run, I really thought I had closed everything. This time I went ahead and printed your directions and made doubly sure everything was closed.

So here it is!

My original posting is on www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread17479-sp2.html . Or for a recap:
[I.E. (and foxfire) were giving me the "cannot find server error"]
I have:
Run Virus Scan (Cox's protection program.)
Spyware scan (Cox)
Run PRCView (nothing looked out of the ordinary)
Tried Foxfire (same problems)
DL'd all updates from MS
Ran Adware
Ran Winsock
I also went to Start-Ctrlpanel-connectivity and clicked repair
I went through the HKEY local and current user the only things I see that I couldn't find out what they are is BAVKRSD.exe and EXKVUX.exe and both of these when I went to the files they were supposed to be in, do not exist. (yes I searched hidden as well.)
Since the above IE runs much smoother, for a while. After so many page views it takes FOREVER for a page to load and eventually I get the cannot find server error again.

I was asked to run the Hijackthis thing and post it in this forum... so here it is: *Wow... thats a huge list!*

Whynot just switch to Mozilla Firefox browser and us IE for windows updates .

We used Mozilla for a while, the same thing happens with it as well...

Okay so I went through the hkey thing (I think I figured it out...) Everything looks to be in order (I searched the net for anything I couldn't figure out what it was...) The only two I couldn't find anything for (and they don't seem to be on my computer anymore when I go to the files they should be in...) is BAVKRSD and EXKVUX.exe (Yes, I searched through hidden files/folders as well...) can anyone tell me if it's okay to delete these?

*EDIT* Oh, I no longer get the "cannot find server" error... it just starts to run slow after viewing so many pages...

I'd like to see how IE does for now, and will post again later with an update. Thanks for your help guys, and I hope it works without further help!

Okay... it's starting to run slow again. It works fine for a while, but the more pages I visit the slower I.E. runs... After reboot it's okay again... SO- I'm going to look for a more detailed explanation of the HKEY thing... I still don't understand what I should be looking for, or exactly what I'm doing with that.

Honestly it sounds like spyware still, follow these steps:

Run ADAWARE SE in my sig, then winsock fix, download any windows updates you dont have, run a virus scan if you have a scanner,

check HKEY\Local Machine\software\microsoft\windows\current\run and runservices for suspicious keys and do the same for HKEY\Current User\......(same as above). (To get to the regediter click Start--run--type"regedit" --then ^

Maye even reboot in safe mode and check your system32 folder for anything suspicious. (arrange by date modified and look at most recent)

oh and delete all your temp internet files

Okay, ran adware - checked through the files it found, most were cookies of sites already visited, but nothing looked like something i needed so I had it quarentine and remove all of the junk listed. I ran winsock, I already have all windows updates, virus scan came up clean. I also went to start-controlpanel-connectivity and clicked repair - rebooted the system. IE is running fine right now (usually does after reboot) So we'll see... as to the hkey/regedit thing... no idea what I would be looking for or what exactly you mean... however I'd like to see how IE does for now, and will post again later with an update. Thanks for your help guys, and I hope it works without further help!

Hey all, this is also my first post, although I've been browsing for a while. My internet Explorer is of course working fine right now, but for the last few weeks it's been a nightmare. I have run virus scan as well as spyware (I use Cox's protection program.) I've removed everything that was infecting the system. I do not belive I have any spyware other then the stupid whenu_savenow thing - which I'm told by an IT guy at my work will virtually always be there if I surf the web often - and I do not believe it is the problem. I've gone thru the thread " Internet Explorer Running SLOW" and ran PRCView. There are of course several processes running that are unecessary such as the printer, some dell support things etc. but nothing that wasn't running before the problems (well at least from what I can remember.) Everything looks fine there. Sometimes IE runs just fine, but it doesn't last long. I am constantly getting the "Cannot find server" error for pages trying to load. If it's a link, I have to click on it repeatedly and EVENTUALLY the page may load if I'm lucky. (Let me tell you - it's been hell trying to go through these threads hoping someone had a similar problem and some solutions!!!!) I don't know if I've gotten the update that was mentioned in ryandmc's post but it's quite possible. Also - mentioned in the IE running slow thread I've …
